The Velvet Underground and Nico

The Velvet Underground and Nico To be honest, i dont really want to talk about this album. I don't know why i put it in the list. It is classic and its important and it has some astounding songs on it (All Tomorow's Parties, Heroin, Waiting for my Man) but when i listen to the Velvets these days it tends to be their 'Best of' because that has Rock n Roll, What Goes On, and Sweet Jane and to be honest The Velvet Underground and Nico does annoy me sometimes. Its one of those contradictions of m

server tuning

It's that time of year again when my thoughts start to turn towards the mad ticket on-sale days and the stupid load it puts on the eFestivals servers for just a couple of hours each time. Last year I came up with a solution that worked reasonably well but not as well as I'd hoped for. So this year a number of steps have already been taken which have improved things substantually, and with some more things still to do I'm reasonably confident of a better result this time around. confusion

It seems that my 'disappearance' is confusing some people. After ten years of breathing, eating, sleeping and farting eFestivals I've decided to take a different role. 5co77ie has been appointed as full-time editor of both eFestivals and eGigs, and I'm moving on to develop new projects while still having a little involvement in both of the sites. In the short-term I'm around to help and advise 5co77ie as necessary, as well as keeping a long-term role in developing and improving both sites

...all going swimmingly

Getting the hang of the new job, I've got a rough idea of how it works. The hard bit is working out what I've done wrong when it doesn't! Now I've got to get up to pace as rapidly as possible. Archery was hard work Friday - straight off the train into archery, Sunday's frostbite was well attended but blustery and it's the longbow league shoot this friday. If I get a good score in that I'll be rewarding myself at the beer festival mmmm 60+ Winter-only brews & Festive Cyders, a Tombola and Pro

so long and thanks for the smiles

:) There's a small handful of people without whom eFestivals wouldn't exist. Very sadly one of these passed away at the weekend, and she'll be sorely missed by me and her many friends but more importantly by her children and husband.

you know when you get an idea in ya head..

and you cant get it out no matter what.? Well i want an Overhead projector. The old style ones, nothing special. Ive got some 'arty' ideas right now and need one. lol. Cant afford it right now tho. (typical January) so ive just got to wait. Christmas was nice. Got lots of lovely things. Hannah got totally spoiled. Blue_mondays got very drunk. New year for me was crap. Everyone got really REALLY REALLLLLLLY drunk, kept trying to pick up hannah, kept waking her. Ended up altho i was tired

118 118

Ah so today is the first of Jan 08 - or 118 as has been rattling about my head all day. The end of December rushed up over me and gave me little time to post. We had our work's Xmas do at the races - where I won enough to get very drunk on alcohol, but not enough to show more than a tenner to K the next morning to justify my huge hangover. Work continued a pace and I completed half my workload for January to give the lads a chance to train someone new up. Then suddenly it was panic pressie bu

"...This place is so empty, my thoughts are so tempting"

So this is a bit of a merge of previous blogs i have posted elsewhere, but they are relevent to the here and now. This is kind of going back to something i wrote in my actual diary the other day. Forgive me. I'm not happy. It's not like its taken me 21 years to realise this, but i have come to the realisation my life is STILL a mess and i HAVEN'T gotten any better. I've felt depressed, been down since i was what, 11? That's 10 years of my life, nearly HALF my life i've felt this way. A

2007

Without getting too Arkwright, its been a funny old year, festival wise I made the move away from Leeds and Reading and if it hadnt have been for Latitude it would have been a break from Mean Fiddler and their ilk. 2008 is shaping up to be more like 2007 but certainly not the major ones that depressed me so much. It was a relly enjoyable year festival wise, the rain hardly effected me and when it should have, it didnt, it never bothered us at all. The festivals we did attend, we met some lovely

is there anybody out there...?

The festival scene well and truly has hit the point where anyone and everyone thinks they can put on a successful festival. 2007 has been full of attempts at running new festivals and events, with various success. There's those who have a good idea as well as the skills to pull what's needed together, and who know how to sell their idea to a paying public. They put in the months of hard work on all the angles needed to pull the event off, and even if they lose money - as long as it's not too

ticks on the list

I've been working thru a list of to-do's since the end of the summer, putting in place certain things for the new year for eFestivals. As ever with these sorts of things getting thru the list never quite goes as fast as hoped for, but even so much of the stuff is now sorted. One of the more important things is sorted, and that's new staff for certain tasks. There's a new full-timer who's going to be having a big role, plus another part-timer who I've been bugging for a while and who is now in

Spiritualized: Live at the Albert Hall

Spiritualized: Live at the Albert Hall Spiritualized have gone a bit funny recently. Amazing Grace (their/his last album) was a bit of a let down to say the least. It was touted as a 'Garage Rock' album and people banged on about the energy and passion in the music. But it was a bit shit. Other than the uninspired songs it lacked what has made Spiritualized records so good. Magic. It was a straight forward rock record bues tinged rock record boring old rock record. And this at the time when t

ackkk..

Baby hannah has been a nightmare recently. The poor thing. She's been teething sinse birth and already has 9 teeth (she's just 7 months) but her sleeping through came to a complete stop about 2 months ago. Now sh's up between 5-10 times a night. Mainly just to be held it would seem. We tried Controled crying but im a complete failiure at that, and after 2 hours of non stop screaming i went up watched her and then she vomited all over her self, so we had to get her up and change her. - ive not

it's all free

I've just downloaded and installed the latest version of Fedora (Red Hat linux), and it's a dream. It has everything you could ever want on your computer straight out of the package, all as least as good as anything Bill could ever buy in (it's not like microshit actually come up with anything good themselves), and it all runs far faster than Windoze does on the same hardware. Why is anyone still enriching Bill?

on the blag

Why does the world and their dog think that eFestivals is here to provide their organisation with a special and personal service for free? Very regularly, eFestivals gets emails from research assistants who want to get us to do their research for them. Very often, the info they're after is easily available and easily findable on the website, but they can't even be bothered to look. Not only that, they are very often offended at being told that us doing work for their commercial benefit will c

This just seems weird!

Just found out that Reg Dwight is coming to our village - yes very Vicar of Dibley stuff. I almost want to get a ticket just to see to believe. The Good news is I hope Mercedes Benz world do more acts (that I want to see) it would be great to be able to walk to a venue and not have to worry about getting home/or travel far but it really is a shocker to me. This is the area that we used to kick about in when we were kids/ making camps and ropes down the race tracks to climb and get chased by secu

There and back again....

Well last Friday I'd handed in my notice and had to pack up for an early plane flight - packing took a bit longer than expected and as K had to visit the Archery Club to sort out some stuff - as it was we didn't get to bed until midnighet and were up again two hours later for the trip to Bristol airport and our flight. No problems boarding and time enough to have breakfast, my sister and her party (her daughter aged 2 and 2 additional friends of hers) cut it fine arriving literally as we were

"secret show" - utter bollox

I get endless press releases about various bands playing a "secret show" - it's so secret that they're sending out press releases. What's the score with this idiot tosh? Is it something that's been made up as a marketing tool in a "oooo, I got tickets to their secret show, I'm such a big fan" kind of way, or are they shows that they thought they didn't need publicity to sell tickets for but then found they couldn't sell the tickets? Either way, they're generally for bands I wouldn't for

I've just had a PM on here from an old mate, who recognised the name of another old mate in a post I'd made (tho he doesn't remember me, the bastard ). edit: a few PMs later with some reminders, and he now knows who I am.

internet archive

I've just dropped by the Internet Archive, trying to find copies of the original webpages that grew into the Glastonbury website I started, which then grew into eFestivals. Those pages aren't in the archive, so I'll have to do some further 'net hunting to try and track them down, or search thru my 500+ CDs of backups. Ho-hum. Why am I wanting them? Well, it's coming up to ten years since I started the site, so thought it would be good to try and find some very early examples of where it all s
