Didn't Pearl Jam release 50 live albums at the same time back in the 1990s? That will account for 1,000 of his tracks, so we're down to 19,000 now

Its a shame you feel the need to keep bringing that up when the topic has moved back into discussion about Pearl Jam.

It was to take away poor live copies being sold to people. Quite a good idea in principle. A true copy of the gig you went to. The Seattle gig has an extra C.D. and is intended as the seminal copy. I think it's a good thing. They do try to re-invent the way music is pedelled. Though at first it turned my stomach a bit.

Yeah, you can have a high quality recording of the gig you went to (didn't Depeche Mode do this with the current tour also?), but the record company will still make a killing from the fanboys buying up every different gig on CD. If Radiohead or someone had done it, you wouldn't be nearly so tolerant I'll wager.

At what, a tenner a pop? And there was me thinking they were the saviours of good ol' rock n' roll! It was very annoying as I remember as a few hardcore PJ fans I knew forked out LOADS of cash to get them all. All a bit George Lucas (as i was thinking about him earlier)!

Still, I guess if people are silly enough to buy them all then they will win every time.

Stop attacking my integrity damn it. No I wouldn't. If it's good I like it. What they did was a good thing. It stops low quality stuff getting pedelled (unless you think PJ are low quality to begin with). I myself have the Seattle copy, as if it were the only one. I don't even think that they made any extra money on recording, releasing and distributing the whole tour as oppossed to one single album. What I am sure of though, is as I say, that it stopped bootlegs from being distributed.

And bootlegs are a lot cheaper than official recordings in my experience so it hardly helped the fans in that respect.

Exactly. If it was a big altruistic thing they would have just allowed bootlegging fans to make their own recordings (which can be ultra-high quality, just as good as any "official bootleg"), or even get soundboard recordings. And it's not a case of "oh, no major label band cound do that", Weezer did it, as did all the bands listed here.

No I'm not kidding, if you really feel the need to talk to Olivavu why not PM him with your questions, the fact he hasn't replied shows he isn't interested in getting into these arguments with you, so why not leave it and let people get back to discussing Pearl Jam, as they have been trying to do whilst you insist on constantly going over old ground.

Back on top again - seemed kind of odd PJ being on Q, I haven't ever really seen any of their stuff, but I guess them playing CW has helped to bring them back into the light a bit. Its going to be interesting seeing what sort of crowd they pull, I'm expecting it to mainly be older people to be honest, but I may well be surprised!

I really don't think so. I mean, Pearl Jam fans I know, even the ones who didn't go out and buy them all, bought a few because there were certain songs they wanted and they weren't on the same album and whatever.

So, for every person who bought one album, there were probably a couple who bought two or three... So all said and done I don't think they would have made a loss!
