East car park

Hi guys, does anyone know what time the East carpark opens on the Tuesday of Glastonbury. I know it says 9pm on the website but realistically surely they can’t let all the traffic build up around the area. I wondered if they tend to open it a bit earlier to get people in off the roads?

Many thanks in advance

They just send you away and round the one way system and back out if you turn up too early, they don't allow traffic to build up and block the narrow lanes. Maybe an hour earlier but I wouldn't recommend any earlier. Campervan traffic arriving after the working day and staff will still be priority, plus local traffic for people who are arriving home from work.

On this topic. If I am coming from the North, what is the best route to ensure I get funnelled into the Blue route. Would it be through Shepton Mallet? I.e. A37? Thanks!

When we lived in Sheffield that was the way we came, we still follow the same postcode of BA4 6SZ which gets you onto Pylle Lane, and then Pylle Road off the A37. This lane/road is the only route into East Car Parks. Map is from 2023 but still very useful! 😊

Hi....yes the BA46TA postcode will get you onto the A37 close to the entry to Blue Route for East car parks.  If you are coming from the North just be careful to go left onto the A37 after Farrington Gurney (signposted Yeovil/Shepton Mallet) and don't carry straight on on what is then the A39 to Wells.   Doing so would mean heading east from Wells to Shepton to rejoin the A37, in order to avoid approaching the site from the west and being herded into west car parks.

As far as traffic goes then, depending on time of arrival, you will likely find the A37 south from Bristol quite busy but it should be the only bottleneck you find.

Have a safe journey and a super festival!

@parsonjack

hello waze equivalent sir.

Thought I'd ask on here so others can see the answer.

We're stopping close to Gloucester on the Monday night. Usually we'd set off early bells Tuesday, stay on the M5 until J23 then come across to enter into the CV fields.

Is this that much more hassle than just coming straight down to the east side from Gloucester itself?

Thanks!

Hi there....assuming you're heading to the East camper fields on Blue Route (or Bath & West..) then you'll need to be on the East side of the site, so the other side of Pilton village if approaching from Jct 23/A39/Glastonbury/A361.  Coming that way, and arriving Tuesday afternoon/early evening for camper fields opening, you will be able to drive through the village, although you may not be able to turn right where the A361 joins the A37 south after the village.  Not a problem as you can simply turn left and then do a 360 at the roundabout 50m away.

The other option of heading straight down from Gloucester would involve negotiating Bristol (to then join the A37 south from there), and although more picturesque than the M5 you'll likely hit more traffic heading south for Pilton.

Not much in it tbh...but imho the latter (via Bristol etc) would be more hassle.
