Pyramid stage co-ordinates

SPW

Recommended Posts

An odd / random question but anybody clued up enough about co-ordinates etc. to know what is the correct co-ordinates for the Pyramid Stage.  It is for a potential (small/subtle) tattoo so want to get it right. I know (well think!) co-ordinates are a single point rather than an area which may explain variations when I try to google an answer.

Wikimapia has 51°9'19"N   2°35'10"W as a starting assumption!

Is it something @Glastopedia may know or have on the website somewhere?

I did have a quick scan on the website last night (brilliant btw and enjoyed the Festival Sounds pod) but didn't see it.

Thanks @itschris, that is v close in terms of reference to one on wikimapia that google maps puts just in front of the stage.

yeah, that's the pin you are given when searching pyramid stage on Google maps, it does appear to be in the tree behind the stage. I'm sure you could drop your own pin else where

Right, I found the map. It's the Cheddar Gorge & Mendip Hills West OS Explorer Map (141). Luckily, I'd already made a little note where some of the stages are on it. My coordinate estimate is 591 398.

That would be enough to get you to it on a walk. Of course, you can get more precise than that if you get a ruler out, and definitely don't get a tattoo based on my estimation 🤣😂

But if that's the sort of coordinate you want to go for, you might want to get the aforementioned map and have a look yourself. Bet you can get it on eBay for a few quid.

Thanks so much @CharlotteB and interesting looking at that map generally. While I think I know where I am going, seeing that makes me realise my perspective is a bit skewed if someone asked me to map it out from memory/judgement.

Thanks @spirit.sky too.  I like cashews, and pizzas are ok, but not sure enough to warrant a tattoo😃

Well if you're not taking it I will.

I might go for picture form - someone fetching pizzas a cashews. Maybe that someone could be Michael Eavis. I'll work on the design.

Pizzas Fetching Cashew.

That's the What3Words if you'd settle for that as a tattoo.

You can convert the centroid of the W3W grid to BNG / Lat Long / whatever to want want wants you have a 'standard' X Y.

Can also use these...

That sounds good, let us know if you do.

My potential one is much more modest, and less creative, an LCD line or title, and some nod to Pyramid / Glastonbury. But v.small.

Dropping the pin on top of the pointy bit gives 51°9'20"N   and 2°35'10"W

I'm sticking with the words for mine.

Is your username a location?

Thanks for the kind words! Turns out I'm using 51°09'20.1"N 2°35'10.7"W for its location on these maps, but I think I just tried to get it as close to the middle of the stage as I could. If you wanted to round those values I reckon 51°09'20"N 2°35'11"W works pretty nicely!

The little triangle is where I worked out the Pyramid Stage to be years ago (during lockdown when we all had too much time on our hands).

Just thinking how a tattoo of a certain place that means a lot to you from a large scale OS map would be f**king cool.

    • Proper special gig tonight. They won't mean much to most people, but The Dogs D'Amour were one of the most significant bands of my youth.   Tyla, yer main man of said band, was playing in Birkenhead tonight. Not many there, but it was going fine. Then he decided he didn't like the smoke and the flashing lights so suggested moving the gig to the beer garden. Off we all went, and it was magical. Like having your favourite musician play in your garden. I absolutely loved it.   Before:     After:
