Anyone feel this is lacking versus previous years? Seems to be not as strong as last year and less focused on international artists.

When can we expect more?

I'd say Chappell Roan, Charli XCX, Queens Of The Stone Age, Beth Gibbons, Khruangbin, Girl In Red, Fontaines DC among the big names is already pretty solid. Not as strong as last year (that one was exceptional), but still good.

And yes, we can expect more to come.

Going to Oya for the first time next week and been listening to some excellent Norwegian bands for the first time.

in Oslo for a few days before hand so any recommendations for things to do, festival insights or band recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

thanks

Do some tourist stuff the days before the festival, like Munch museum etc. You can go and see a movie, since Øya has a movie program with some special movies: https://www.nfkino.no/event/oyakino-2025-31-juli-3-aug-og-10-aug-klingenberg-kino

Check also out Botanical Garden, that’s next to the festival, so you can do it before a festival day. There is also Tøyenbadet that is new for the year. Same place as the festival if you like a swim.

Remember the Klubbdagen on Tuesday, which is free for all with festival ticket. I’m going for some gigs at John Dee. Just get your festival band before that evening. You can get it on Youngstorget on Monday and Tuesday from 11:30. Check the program out here: https://www.oyafestivalen.no/program/oya-tirsdag-2025

Recommended Norwegian bands for the main festival: Honningbarna, HILLARI, Aktiv Dødshjelp and Musti.

Last tip: take care of you beer glass, since it’s 25 NOK if you have to buy a new one, and there is plenty of water spots to fill the cup with water.

I will also add the chance to go with a boat to some of the small islands around Oslo on the price of a city transport ticket. Also a walk in Ekeberg Park and Vigeland Park - some great nature surroundings combined with art scluptures.

For the festival i will suggest come early since the fest finishes early. Plenty of nice bands going on around the start and also plenty of spaces to sit and relax if you need to later. I went last year and loved it. Definitely will come back later. Might have been the best i've ever been to.

    • It was awful during Father John Misty and I was close to the front. People just shouting and laughing their f-ing heads off about nothing in particular and being louder than the bloody stage.
    • Other things I noted yesterday, away from the obvious…   Positives: - an extra water point towards the back left of the main stages has appeared, which I believe is new for this year (and was much needed) - handing out free ponchos was a good touch  - caroline were fantastic. I’d never been in the Auditori Rockdelux before, it’s a wonderful venue and a great venue if you fancy a more chilled out environment  Negatives: - the talkers. I know it’s always bad here (and most festivals nowadays) but f**k me people wouldn’t shut up yesterday. I wonder if it was partly as a result of people being at artists they had little interest in (due to rain limiting their options), although it wasn’t great during blood orange. We’ll be making an effort to get a spot nearer the front for anyone we particularly care about over the weekend  - not enough staff around (and the ones that are there are largely useless). Most other festivals have them everywhere and are happy to help
