dansafc
Folks, been lucky enough to get tickets with campervan and intending to get down on the Tuesday afternoon. Other half is travelling separately via Bristol airport with arrival around 10.30pm the same day. What are peoples suggestions to get the site at that time at night? Are trains/buses running? Hire car? Taxi? Etc. Cheers in advance.
tomfestival_11
Your mrs is a lot more tolerable than mine. I’d have to definitely pick her up haha. it’s a 45min drive ish from there. I am not even sure you can get a bus directly. Definitely no trains near by. I’d do a taxi but I am lazy.
dansafc
Would it be possible to leave the campervan fields and then come back in later the same night? She thinks once we're in theres no way of getting back out again until monday...
grumpyhack
It is difficult, but not impossible to get out. The problem is that a one-way system down narrow lanes operates to get people in. I had to leave the site a couple of years ago because of a family emergency at home and, after a lot of discussion, they were able to shut the one way system to allow me out. But it won't be popular. Why not collect your Mrs at the airport and then travel on to the festival together? If you arrive at Tuesday midnight you'd still be able to get in and find a decent pitch for your camper. We arrived one year at 4am after an accident blocked roads a few miles from Glastonbury and led to huge tailbacks. We ended up setting up the caravan as dawn was breaking. This is the most sensible/easy option. The transport options at that time of night are close to non-existent. There's a possibility that she could blag her way on to a steward shuttle bus from Castle Cary (if one is even running at that time) but even then it would not drop her off near the campervan fields. dansafc
Thanks. Il have a 4 year old in tow so not keen on leaving the site to get to Bristol airport and back at 11pm. Few quotes for taxi are around the £60 mark which isnt too bad. If you don't arrive within a van on the Tuesday is it easy enough to access the field? No restrictions on who might be allowed in? Also, traffic control are going to be funny about letting a taxi anywhere near the camper routes - as mentioned before, they're all one way - inwards - from Tuesday, so they won't let someone in who needs to get out - presuming you're at Campers East, the taxi will be turned around before it gets to Blue Route, at the exit from the A37. She'll probably need to get dropped at the drop off point, which is a 3ish mile walk around, some on busy main roads, detouring round the closures of Pilton etc to get to CV East. I'd time your journey to meet her at the airport and go together - there are so many things that could go wrong, and the area is full of traffic and redirections, and one-way systems and road closures. Alternatively - she could stay at the airport overnight, and meet you Wednesday. She could get the airport bus / bus and train, join the queue and then walk across site to meet you - its shorter, and she can get a pint on the way
