I'm looking into one of these bad boys.

I'm a bit of a technophobe if i'm honest. Do i just plug it in to my house mains to charge it and the connect my phone by USB when out and about?

More or less. I think mine charges with a USB that I connect to my PC, but if you have a USB mains adaptor that'll probably also work.

Basically, yes. I don't think my Anker external battery came with a mains plug adapter, just a USB cable. But mains charger plugs off other pieces of kit (like my camera or Blackberry charger) seem to work fine and wall-charging is quicker than via PC USB port. The only thing to check is that you have the right connectors for the phones/kit you want to charge. My Anker was bought pre-iPhone 5, and so didn't have a connector for the wife's iPhone 5 micro-port - which caused a bit of bother. But these things are easy to find. Having it was very handy last year - just plugged it into a phone, stuck them both in a rucksack, walked about for an hour of so and, presto - charged. All the fun of the charging tent without, y'know, having to go to the charging tent.

My phone just uses micro USB, so think the standard USB end will go in the Anker and then little one in my phone as normal

FYI I had a 8400mAH one last Glasto and got 3 full charges out of 3 different phones. There's also a sneaky torch on them!
