Fest fest...are there too many festivals?

I think there are.

eFestivals lists dozens and dozens of festivals and there's always a good number cancelled every year. It feels like the number of cancellations rises with the increase in the number of festivals - supply outstripping demand (and quality diluted too)

I'm not sure if there are or aren't. As TheNewUnion implies, the market will find it's own equilibrium. So, as long as people go to these festivals then they'll survive. There's always been a lot of small festivals. This site just makes their existence known to more people, which is not a bad thing.

I think what I'm trying to say is that it matters not how many festivals are out there. What's it to you if there's another festival going on in some part of the country where you are not going to go to?

There's only too many of them if they are all the same. They need to be a little different, in their own unique ways.

I've always dreamt of running my own festival that incorporates a Las Fallas (Valencia fire festival) kind of approach, involving a lot of fire related performance and displays, alongside limited stages with music, circus and a never ending campfire.

It'll never happen, but I guess it takes a few elements from other festivals and creates something new and unique.. It's a nice dream I like to have, and it probably doesn't appeal to anyone else/they'd laugh in my face but whatever, keeps me happily daydreaming.

I find all these arena festivals are a bit samey with their line ups etc. Maybe I'm wrong though, I've only ever been to Glastonbury :) Hoping to change that this year by working at a few, as I can't afford to go to more than Glastonbury.
