Is it really as bad as I've heard regarding dogs and searches?

depends on luck really - same as any other fest. didn't get searched or see a dog last year.

Last year we saw one dog on the entrance into the campsites and that was it, not particularly strong deterrent for a lot of people

Ah. Well I took nothing last year as I was paranoid, I saw one dog all weekend and none when I first arrived so almost certainly would've been fine. Always a bit of a lottery with festivals but I've been fine at other events and when you see the amount of stuff that always get in...well, surely not many people get caught.

Beatival actually has the highest number of drug seizures of all the major festivals I believe, probably due to the type of music they have on - having said that in the 4 years I've been I've only seen dogs once and that was last year!

nah, they have the highest seizures cos Hampshire police take the biggest police actions at festivals (as far as I've ever experienced, anyway) of any force in the country.

I wouldn't be surprised if Boomtown beats it for seizures this year as that was mental with the searches... and I also wouldn't be surprised if there were greater police efforts at Bestival this year than previously too, based on Boomtown. The one thing that might lessen the old bill's effort at Bestival in comparison is the fact that the allocated old bill are marooned on the island if there's a big incident they need to get to.
