Ther was once a notion that eavis wouldn't book heavier stuff due to a fatality at one festival featuring pearl jam.... Since then he has seen sense and booked the rubbish qotsa and the pumpkins this year... Could this becomes particular slot like the legends slot?

I think Marilyn Manson would work, big but not absurdly big, and commercial enough.... Any other suggestions ?

If you're seriously describing QOTSA and The Smashing Pumpkins as "rubbish", I think people here might refuse to entertain your notion on principle.

But for what it's worth, the single worst performance I've ever seen at Glastonbury was by Coheed and Cambria.

I see what you're getting at, and it's an interesting proposition.

I thought I might have spotted a pattern with The Eagles of Death Metal playing one year and Coheed and Cambria the next. Brand New have done it, too.

But...I've no idea on what criteria - if any - such bands were chosen.

That said, yeah - Marilyn Manson would probably go down a storm - especially on the Shangri La Hell Stage (which won't even be there next year). I also get the impression that he'd give the set the respect it deserves.

But I'm afraid you've lost me on the whole QOTSA front. Even if Josh Homme is, in your eyes, a cash grabbing bastard, their 2011 performance was incredible to the point that I felt like the sky was falling.

I saw rammstein at rock am ring , it was heavy going, but perhaps an hour of madness every true music fan should experience , if only for posterity

As for josh homme...... Had he played with Kyuss, the sky's anus would have raped itself.... But you know .. The grohl way of life is lucrative.

Manson on hell. The theatre would be superb but it's a bit small

I've not been to Download but have friends who have. I did however used to go to the old Monsters of Rock festivals at Donington and have attended many other rock/metal festivals over the years including a couple of recent Hard Rock Hell events.

One thing the crowds there do not need to do is cheer up. A friendlier bunch of people you would be very hard pressed to meet.

It was almost universally agreed on these boards that QOTSA were superb in 2011 helping real music fans escape beyonce- it was one of the best other stage performances I've seen in 9 Glastos over 20 years....

Download crowd was for me one of the best I've ever been in. You could get launched 20 feet across the field if you step into the wrong mosh pit but somebody will always pick you up and then scream "METAL!!!!111" into your face.

Saw Kyuss there last year too, incidentally.
