BBC Coverage

Just going through some of the BBC online footage and it looks like they tried to film absolutely everything this year. Just wondered what people think of all the extra coverage and if its a good or bad thing. I like to be able to watch a few of the bands on TV when I get back but almost feel like they are over doing it!

Went to this tomato fight thing last year and it was pretty cool and now they have this BBC presenter running round in there filming people like it is a bit of a freak show. Sometimes think it would be nice if not everything was covered by the BBC or am I just being a miserable git!

Below is the tomato video

All this blanket coverage and moth-frothing over Bumford on Radio 1 is bringing in people who, to be perfectly honest, are more suited to V. Greenfields wasn't getting nearly enough traffic, whereas the Pyramid and John Peel were groaning with teenagers who didn't move from those areas. It's all very well to put this on TV, but it gives people a skewed view of Glastonbury and attracts an uneven demographic, there was a guy in the Speaker's Forum talking about how Glastonbury used to be the biggest even on many green organisations' calendars, now most don't bother.

Its nearly 100% a good thing, nearly!

I mean for those unfortunate not to get tickets, or who simply couldn't make it (Age, Health etcc...), then they don't miss out on the music side, albeit they miss out on the atmosphere and the amazing time.. (For me, seeing the 2009 coverage made me want to go so much!)

But more cameras brings out more exposure, which means more opportunity to bring out attention seekers, who have no interest in acts, but just want to get on TV (My Social Media is full of this...)

But for me, its a good thing, but BBC's 'Highlights', pointing out pretentious poppy crap like Rita Ora, in my opinion will bring in V Fest w*nkers (Not stereotyping everyone at V, just pointing out the people who are Stereotypically found at V)....

I guess now we are in the digital age everything is going to be captured somehow like it or not. It does give a bit of a skewed viewpoint although I have noticed more footage of the late night areas and the common etc.

There is no real mention of any of the festivals roots or history at all really (although they did show the Julian Temple film) and not much time given to any political or environmental issues

Also I feel some of the presenters are quite annoying with that semi sarcastic T4 style of presenting (with the exception of Marc Radcliffe and Jo Wiley/Steve Lamacq)

Having said that watching Paul Mcartney on the TV was the reason I wanted to go in the first place!

It quite frankly pissed me off while watching bands up close at The Park and West Holts. You become more self conscious of what you're doing when that big camera on a stick (apologies for poor description) comes round trying to get pics of the crowd.
