When I saw him on the Olympics Opening Ceremony, I couldn't believe that was the Frank Turner that everyone bangs on about on here. I thought he was poor.

I think he posted this blog after the guardian questioned his politics after the Olympic ceremony. Seems quite open. My mum spoke to someone who i think helps run the leftfield and he joked about how his politics had shifted slightly rightward in recent years.

I've not met many people educated at Eton but those that I have tend to have a pretty skewed right wing view of the world... It's what privilege provides.. And I guess that Frank Turner is no exception...

Lets make this clear - I DO NOT SPEAK FOR FRANK TURNER.

Now that's clear... He has never hidden his politics, ever. He has been mis quoted and taken out of context more times than I care to remember.

Billy Bragg will vouch for him, they disagree about a lot of politics but would stand side by side to defend each others rights to have those views.

I also don't agree with a lot of Franks politics but he is well read and reasoned and I have the utmost respect for that.

And his music? For me it's bloody great and the last album was easily as good and probably better than Love Ire and Song. The new one is going to surpass everything he has done to date.

This thread is interesting. People have been telling me that as a bit of a lefty, that I would like his music. This has happened on several occasions and happened again last weekend. So finally (god, this has been a long time in coming) I've been trying to find out if he is my kind of musician.

After a brief but intense period I think I can say he isn't. The music is OK for me, but also not overwhelming from what I've heard. He does look like a good live performer which I appreciate, but the politics thing is important for me. It is important because those who were convinced that I'd like his music were doing so under the misunderstanding that his politics were similar to mine. Having read what he has said in interviews and some of the lyrics, I don't think he is the singer for me.

As i said in another thread, exchanged emails with him yesterday and he said he would love to play, but was never asked. Personally i think that is a shame, but its all just people's opinions.

A real shame as although not to everyone's taste here due to his politics, I do think his music live lends itself well to Glastonbury !! I met him a few months back in Leeds and asked if he was playing and he said he wanted to. Obviously the bookers have other ideas.

Just go to 2000 Trees instead and see him headline there. Excellent little festival to. Similar to glasto in that you can take your own booze in and drink it anywhere - different to glasto in that I think the capacity is 5000 people - just a bit of a difference.
