Tipi

Me and some friends were lucky enough to get tickets earlier this morning!! :D

After years and years of thinking about it, we're probably going to hire a tipi next year. There's 5 of us and we would be splitting the £950 cost.

What do people who have stayed in them before think of them? What are the good points, bad points etc.? Is it competitive to get one when they go on sale?

We stayed in one in 2007. Hopefully that kind of weather never to be repeated! Tipis aren't great in torrential downpours! We loved it though even through all the mud and rain. After camping its great still being in the middle of it all without having to lug your tent. Great fun and an awesome experience all in.

We stayed in the Tipis in 2006-which was the first year they had done it and it was awful, but returned in 2007 to the site where they now are and it was great. Ended up spending lots of time at the Park stage-and saw unannounced gigs. The locations great, but if you like the atmosphere on being in the thick of it I would not recommend. They don't have any additional furnishing other than ground sheet. No wood burners but there are communal fires scattered around. The showers are amazing!

We had a tipi for the last 2 festivals. 2010 was good, with nice composting toilets ad solar showers in the tipi field. In 2011, the toilets and showers were enclosed cubicles, and filled up quicker. I felt it was not quite as good in 2011, and my friends don't want one this year.

The tipi itself is basic inside, with a grounsheet/carpet on the floor. I would not advise burning anything inside, certainly not wood. There is a communal campfire in the field in the evenings.

It was a very good experience and I would recommend it, especially as it is a nice central spot, if you are around the park. Thewalk to the field will live with me forever after last year, with the mud, as it took us over 2 hours dragging our trolley through the mud, but when we got there - no hassle with putting up a tent and we just collapsed.

I must admit the thought of getting a tipi, had crossed my mind.Getting into the festival and trying to find a decent pitch on the first day can be a nightmare. We only live 70 miles away so we could just turn up on wed afternoon no queuing and not putting up tents sounds like heaven to me.has anyone got any idea how quickly they sell out ? is it going to be like it was yesterday morning lol.

They leak. A lot. They arent supposed to, but when they have thrown up 400 odd? tipis in a week, you are gonna get flaws.

My main drive for a tipi last year (2011) was It's nice to not have to lug a tent in and be arsed with finding a pitch. Its pretty good value if you fill the tipi up with people too. Tolets and showers in Tipi field were a joke last year, and most of the loos on site were better than the tipi field.

The door to the tipis is about 3ft high. Trying to get in a tipi when you are 6ft tall+, inebriated and without your muddy boots , while makes for some nice comedy moments, is not much fun when you are ready to crash.

I will not be Tiping it again, probably rent another pre-erected tent solution

just my 2p.

Oh, the view was great

    • If you didn't see melt banana at Apolo. Go see them at the festival. Insane.
    • Interesting, and thanks for coming back to give an update! I've seen that the second stage looks bigger than usual too, looks to be a Serious Stages - Stellar Stage from distance photos.    Seems like sizing wise stages have been scaled up somewhat this year.
    • I see its cancelled now but they did leave it really late to announce plus they are up against Kelburn Garden Party Festival not to far from the festival site.
