It's actually pretty easy when you think about it.

The police have identified who many of the individuals are who are part of the robbing groups, and their photos have been circulated. So they're often identified on-site by the police, who are then either able to watch them till they do something wrong so they can nick them, or they can be just removed from the site.

For example: At a particular festival of mid-size about 5 years ago, on the Thursday the old bill nicked a group of people and they were removed from the site (under arrest, I think). Just (I think it was) 3 robberies were reported at that festival that year - with all of those robberies happening prior to that group being removed from site.

It's not the huge numbers of individuals on the rob at festivals that some people think it is (tho that happens sometimes I guess). In the main it's these organised groups.

The pictures are a large element of it but these guys also have/had tactics that can now be watched out for too.

Well if whatever they are doing is working then great. I'm just not sure how successful you could be at identifying particular individuals in a place say the size of Glasto.

it of course gets more difficult the bigger the fest, but still not impossible.

- If they know the vehicles the groups use, they can spot them using number-plate recognition.

- I'm pretty sure that the police have 'spotters' at the entry gates.

- there's lots of plain clothes coppers wandering around.

etc, etc.

aww thats a total bummer. Getting my tend done over is a fear of mine but yer stash getting taken then nicked, thats worse. Presumably they would be after the professionals more than the little dude in the corner

Although not bullet proof, especially at a festival, it might be something people would consider when they go camping elsewhere. I reckon it wouldn't be so bad if you had 2 of them screws in the ground and a a Packsafe anti theft bag with your contents in instead of using the bicycle lock.

Meant to say - I would put this under the tent itself in the corner. It would mean lifting up the corner of the tent each time but how much trouble is that.
