Return journey advice please

This is my first time venturing to Bestival and am after a bit of advice about the return journey please. I'm heading down on Wednesday and spending a night in Waverley so not too bothered about that bit.

Gonna be using the East Cowes - Southampton route and just wondered if anyone had any advice about what time would be best to leave the site on Monday morning. Is it just as early as possible? Any ideas about queues at the ferry port?

Need to factor in a return train but just trying to work out how long we need to leave to be safe.

Leave early as its a queue for the shuttle buses and then a queue for the ferry.

I would allow 6 hours to be safe before your train leaves.

One other thing - obviously when you book the ferry you have to pick a time. Do they tend to keep to your given times or can you just jump on any ferry as long as you've bought a return ticket?

I've always just bought an open return.

Can you buy tickets at redfunnel on the day or do you have to book in advance?

As I said, I buy them on the day.. no need to book online at all or pick times etc..

Kinda dreading getting back. I think our flight is around about 4pm so we'll have to get off the island sharpish. I'll be up and packed first thing and hopefully should be on one of the first busses away from the festival.

I found the Monday a piece of piss last year. If you leave early morning then you shouldn't have any problems. I was back in Aberdeen by 3pm.

thanks for this thread, it answered a lot of questions, are therr pubs on either side of the ferry? i have planned a car share and may need to wait around abit
