Looking to get a new set of headphones.

I've had Sennheiser CX-300 IIs & CX-870s. Currently have a set of Sony MDR-NC13 noise cancelling headphones as I work on aircraft so these are great for podcasts but rubbish for any bass music & are awkward shape in the ear to walk around or move with.

Anyone have any recommendations, I prefer in-ear headphones, but if you are particularly fond of over head ones then that would be helpful as I also do a bit of bedroom DJing.

Should I stick to the Sennheiser's or spend a little more money eg Bose, Klipsche, Monster/Beats? There's a few new brands out I've never heard of that are quite pricey.

These look great but bloody expensive.

Don't know if they are any good but Skullcandy's look naff btw.

This site is great for choosing a pair headphones. http://www.head-fi.org/products/ (there's even rankings of hundreds of different headphones based on ratings)

I was going to get the Beat By Dre Studios for crimbo but after doing some research on them I changed my mind. Loads of people are saying they are over priced/ over powering bass etc/ sound leakage/ aren't as good for indie/rock/metal and all that. So decided to get a pair of Audio Technica ATH M50 instead. Which are almost 80 quid cheaper then the beats studios and everyone seems to be bumming them (M50s) in the reviews so yeaahh.

I find people are buying the Beats audio gear as a fashion accessory rather than an item enhancing their music. I like their sound quality for dance music but the over head models are extremely flimsy & I doubt wouldn't last long travelling constantly. Plus I listen to rock music too.

Thanks for the website. I will have a trawl through it later.

Found these for £35 http://hmv.com/hmvweb/displayProductDetails.do?ctx=345;16;-1;-1;234&sku=353282

    • Another Kraftwerk one for me today, as just back from seeing them.
    • Completed my 2026 survey. Put down Super Furry Animals as my most wanted for next year but suspect the moment has gone for that. Popped a big shopping list in the box for who else you would like to see. 🙂
