Good point. They could have been booked under a different name to play a secret set due to contractual obligations to Soni I suppose.

I was hoping they would headline Hevy. I heard a rumour that they were locked in for Hevy but Soni came in and offered more money. This is all heresay though and I doubt the accuracy. Still don't reckon Hevy could afford them though.

Surely Refused would be too big for lock-up? Theyit of b've got quite a bit of hype around their reformation and now especially with it likely being a UK exclusive, could maybe fit in the gap above billy talent, similar slot to glassjaw?

That gap you mentioned is about the same level as a lock-up headliner anyway.

But Refused were never a big band. They were hardly known. But they've become very influential. Their reformation is massive news for those who care, but for the large majority they'll be pretty much unknown.

Refused are not too big or too expensive, the arguement about them being too big is mostly based on hype of their reformation and not people actually knowing them or even bought their albums before and some of the fests they are headlining this year have had bands headline that aren't big enough to headline Lock Up. And since when are Refused bigger or even remotely as big as Rancid?

Don't get me wrong I'm a fan of Refused but they are a band that appeal to a small & older hardcore punk scene, they aren't At The Drive In or Soundgarden. I swear all the people who keep saying they are big act that would only play mainstage or some other big slot have only just heard of them.

I agree. They were never massive. They could have been if they'd toured in support of The Shape of Punk to Come. Massively influential though but the majority of R&L goers probably wouldn't know who they were. I'm quite glad they're not able to do Soni (no disrespect to Soni - it's very sad they had to cancel, I went last year and it was amazing) because I would rather see them in a tent full of hardcore fans.

I don't think Refused are too big for the Lock Up. When I tell people my favourite band are Refused they just look at me blankly.... *sigh*

I'm hoping for Rancid to fit that slot after Billy. I NEED to see them one day and don't fancy a day ticket for Rebellion. Glassjaw again would also be nice as I missed them last year :(

    • Tonight was a disgrace. There wasn't *that* much rain, and it wasn’t *that* windy. A festival of this size should be able to withstand some adverse weather without it bringing the whole circus to a standstill. And if it is true that part of a speaker on the Revolut stage fell…   As for the communication - announcing Massive Attack were playing at 12:30 and then nothing for over an hour while people waited in the rain. It’s laughable it really is.   If I said I’ll never come back again I’d be lying. The shambles of Barcelona 2022 and the disgrace of Madrid 2023 didn’t stop me, so this probably won’t either.   This festival gets so much wrong, but it is always saved by having such killer line-ups. It’s just a shame it treats the fans/customers/consumers like animals. Compare it to somewhere like Glastonbury and it’s worlds apart.
    • Yeah, I admit that a small part of me felt relieved when they announced that MA are canceled.. But on the positive side- got to see Florence Road afterall, and they were great
    • Glad I could take the €3 bus to Playa Catalunya! Hope y'all warm and dry up.
