Food prices?

Ok, as everyone's have a moan, I should preface this by pointing out that I in no way let it spoil my festival and it's not really a 'moan' as such :).

Anyone know why prices seemed to have jumped up a chunk this year?

£2.50 for a 500ml bottle of coke from some places and £10 for a bacon cheeseburger with chips!

As ever, of course, if you took a bit of time looking around you could find cheaper places. Ie, can of coke for £1.

Think my favourite not-bad value food was the Welsh Oggie, for which you got a massive Pasty for £4.50 - probably enough for two if you didn't have my appetite :).

I was wondering if stalls prices had been up by the festival - either for the space or consumables they use etc.

I appreciate general running costs have gone up too.

Avoid the Ice Cream vans like the plauge, food prices contrasted drastically from stall to stall... all I can say is avoid Jerk Chicken/Most Burger stalls and Ice Cream vans and you should get a fairly reasonable deal!

Glastonbury should place a cap on the cost of their spring water though, it's really not right the amount some places (again Ice cream vans) charge for WATER

You're clearly going to the wrong stalls then :) The most expensive thing I payed all weekend was £7 and that was for better than resturant standard food!

As for buying Soft drinks. Cans seem to be the way to go, otherwise, bring your own! :)

We found that prices were pretty much the same as last year for food, never got charged more than £2 for a bottle of diet coke which has been the norm or £7 for a decent meal. Although i quite like Glasto pricing, everything on the £ or 50p, back in the real world 1p's and 2p's are now grating on me!

Those Oggies were excellent value for money. £4 and it filled me up for the entire day and evening. Otherwise though it wasn't that bad if you pick where you eat carefully. There was a great paella place that had massive portions for something like £6 which was good.

this has been my only complaint about the festival having attended more than ten now.i would suggest a max price for water 50p/half litre.i often fill up at the taps but sometimes it is not possible to get them without a hour long wait.

Didn't really cause me a problem - I had enough food in my camper to survive the apocalypse (spent over £150 on food stuffs that won't go off, as well as some stuff for BBQs etc) and did have enough cash in my wallet to be able to buy a few bits of food a day and not be too distressed.

However I thought over all it just 'felt' a lot more expensive and wondering if there was a reason behind this.

Oh and I did have a 'Byron' burger on Monday. £6 rather than £8 normally in the festival, but wasn't bad at all to be fair. Wanted to get a £7.50 8oz burger and chips in the diner style place I think was in the unfair ground, but it would seem continuing to drink beer kept me well fueled enough on the last night.

You can refill water bottles at any water point onsite for free - it's all drinking water so if anyone's daft enough to pay whatefver silly prices it was being sold for more fool them

There are plenty of decent places to eat at a good price, but if you're looking for a bacon burger and chips I'd suggest you're not aiming for a right stalls to get a nice meal at a nver reasonable price, try somewhere away from the standard burger stalls and you'll find things a lot more reasonable

Surely the water is more a case of forward planning than anything else?

If I'm going to be moshing in a crowd, for instance, I will always take a bottle of water as well as some beers.

Otherwise I know it's not a big issue for me - if it was, I'd certainly take my camel back or similar.

In some cases the queues for the food were so long it'd be quicker to walk to the closest tap anyway.

Interesting to see people think prices haven't gone up much - maybe I've just been paying more attention because I'm now self-employed!

I don't think food prices had gone up this year. If you're daft enough to pay £2.50 for a bottle of coke or water then that's that, but there were plenty of cheaper places to buy both food and drinks, and more than enough taps.

I wish more of the food stalls would have had 'tasters'. There was a Tibetan food stall selling 'Momos' (beef dumplings) for a £1 with a bit of chilli dip, delicious and entices us back for more! It can be quite frustrating to have eaten and then see a stall that gets the taste buds tingling again only to realise you are not actually hungry  I know it's not practical for a lot of food but some of the more exotic cuisines miss a trick by not doing this

I really didn't mind the food pricing at all because all the food that i ate was remarkably good.

At other festivals i often strugle to find vegi food and when i get some it is often inedible and i have to find somewhere else and spend more money. Not all the time but quite a lot.

I loved the food last weekend.

I found, as always, beyond restaurant standard food at below restaurant standard prices. Yam the Cassava, Good Thai Dins, The AMAZING Tapas please in West Holts... I got the luxury meat thingy, £7.90 and I had to give half away it was so big.

I didn't like the absence of the yellow stalls though... the newsagents, which I guess were a replacement, were extortionate, charging £4 for a 2 litre bottle of lemonade on Friday (and for some reason £3 on Saturday). The exact same one cost £2 from the yellow stall in 2010!

For my first Glastonbury I found the food to be far better and cheaper than I would at most sporting events I attend such as football matches, F1 and a few other events. In fact there was not enough days to try all the food places I wanted to.
