Dissertation Questionnaire

Hi all,

I'm currently writing my dissertation and it would be wonderful if any of you could quickly complete my survey.

It's very short, comprising of 10 questions about the way you listen to and purchase (or not) music.

I am extremely grateful for your help.

I know it's not very relevant posting in this forum, and I apologise for that but I use this place under a different Username and know you're a helpful, frienly lot.

Have a lovely day :)

Done, interesting subject area too. My flatmate and I were just discussing spotify and he said since he started using it (A couple of years ago) his illegal downloading had 90% stopped..... however the attitude to consumption had not changed and now spotify has turned "shit" he'll just go back to downloading, unless a viable replacement comes along. However we both agreed had spotify done something like double the number of adverts served up, this wouldn't have impacted on our view of the service.

Too many people have gotten used to free, I remember first using kazaa and the like about 10-12 years ago, meaning the current crop of 14-18 year olds have only ever lived in a world where music was easily available for nothing. As a result I really don't think theres any way that the majority can be turned back to anything that costs money, especially for something intangible like MP3's..... If there was a resurgence in things such as picture-discs or collectible artworks this might change for a select few but in general the industry as a whole needs a radical shakeup and it's been resisting for too long as labels/distributors and traditional music marketing are becoming functionally obsolete.

Ha, seems like you've grasped the in's and out's of my dissertation. The last question is what my dissertation is centred around, now that the emphasis on the tangible object seems to be decreasing slightly. I've found some interesting arguments completely against that though so it is quite a good insight in to something that I'm concerned about.

I'll always be a fan of the physical artefact though, a passion that's stemmed from my dad's interest in music too. Nothing impressed me more than wading through his boxes of vinyl when I was younger, was instinct that I wanted something to rival it.

The new criteria for Spotify's usage couldn't have happened at a better time too.

    • Brazil's first half was genuinely dreadful all round, not just the midfield, so they're absolutely not bulletproof. Whether Scotland have the quality to take advantage is a different question.   Tbf, that's as much on Morocco looking good, which I did think was a possibility. They could be a bit annoyed with themselves not to have scored more before Vini's goal tbh.
    • Surely nowadays with so much data analytics available on every division in world football and so much awareness that people aren't suckered in on the basis of a decent World Cup game... right?   Although tbf, from what I saw, Australia's game plan worked very well. But that was as much thanks to Turkey blowing varying opportunities given they created enough chances but couldn't finish, a la what happened with Switzerland against Qatar when they really could and should've won by 3/4 goals.
    • I missed Viagra Boys for a good spot for Gorillaz. Was a nice weekend and festival for me. Would definitely come back, if the line up is right. Get back home safe everyone.
    • The Last Temptation - new Heaven 17 documentary film directed by James Strong. Premiered at Sheffield Docfest this weekend.    I really enjoyed it. Affectionate, insightful, and honest. A nice mix of archival and footage, interviews and clips from the last tour. Martyn and Glenn are like an old married couple.   Plus a snippet of news from the Q&A, Martyn is recording new BEF material, and Phil Oakey has collaborated on the one of tracks. The film shows them meeting in Fagans for the first time in over 35 years.
