no idea on either.

All I know is that one of the major Reading hotels has been block-booked for the whole weekend, when it's not been block-booked in previous years.

I'd say it's hugely likely that the booking has been made by an act that's appearing at the fest, rather than as festival staff accommodation, tho it's slightly odd that an act would need the whole weekend - but maybe they're being divas, or perhaps the day they might play is currently fluid so they're covering all possibilities.

I reckon next year could go something like this:

Fri: Smashing Pumpkins

Soundgarden

Sat: Kasabian

Bloc Party

Sun: Foo Fighters

Biffy Clyro

I know having soundgarden subbing is slightly optimistic but you never know with the whole nirvana anniversary, it would sure sell out too.

Download: Fri: Soundgarden/Machine Head

Sat: Rammstein

Sun: Van Halen

Sonisphere: Fri: Tool/Machine Head

Sat: Red Hot Chili Peppers

Sun: Rage Against The Machine

We need a list of realstic bands that would fit this band booked and entourage? Surely as well you would need it to be someone where the rest won't need to travel will them to Leeds as the people it is have or are able to block-book for the whole weekend

Right, but why would they need the whole weekend when they are playing Leeds too? Surely that means that only the actual band are travelling and the rest are just having a party all weekend in reading

There's a number of realistic possibilities for why an act might have booked the hotel for the whole weekend, I'm sure I don't need to name them.

While it could instead be a booking for festival staff of some kind, it's not happened before, and it's far less likely I reckon that staff would be booked into what I'd guess is the most expensive hotel in Reading during the festival.

It's quite possible that 'boss' types book themselves in there most years, but I'd say it's hugely unlikely that just one of those would fill the whole hotel with their minions, or alternatively want all others excluded from the premises by booking rooms they're not going to be filling.

Okay, so who's your hunch on?

Kanye mainly cos he's the sort of diva who I reckon would insist on a hotel free of any possible interruptions. He spent (I think it was) £7k on one night's accommodation for Big Chill this year.

But of course if it's Kanye then, because of the record, it's quite likely to be Jay-Z too (and with Beyonce in tow of course), and which makes it all a better fit for Reading than just Kanye would be. And of course justifies the whole hotel better than just Kanye.

But it's just a hunch. From what I know from about the same time as I discovered that the hotel was booked, Melvin was saying just one act was booked for next year and that's an act with guitars (so not likely to be Kanye & Jay-Z) - so it might not be them.

Mate, you should definitely have Melvin's job. I love this line up. Morrissey into Suede would be incredible, Death Cab, Noel Gallagher, Bloc Party and The Cure all in one day is everything I could ever ask from a festival, as is The Cribs, Iggy and The Stooges and The Smashing Pumpkins. I'd pay about 7 times this year's ticket price to see this badboy.

Wishful thinking for much of it I know but bear with me...

Outkast are rumoured to have a new album out next year and would fit perfectly behing Jay-Z I reckon.

I was gonna put Kanye in the Prodigy's place but couldn't find his logo haha.

if the whole block party thing is right then your headliners seem right but Jay-Z with Kayne West and Dizzee under. I have a feeling if so then only 2 out of Mumford, The Prodigy and Biffy Cylro will play. But I would take the above with Bloc Party all original over Jay-Z and Kanye, what I'm hoping for anyway.
