Going to try making home-made alcoholic tomato ketchup for tentside bacon rolls. Could either be the most inspired bit of vodka usage ever, or just f**king awful.

Used vodka in a tomato pasta sauce before (but cooked the alcohol out) - I reckon if you make a ketchup that's too thick then add vodka when it's as good as cooled, it could work?

Would be a hell of a hangoer cure! TBH I was trying to figure out how to make alcoholic sausage rolls (planning on some Heston Blumenthalesque munch this year round) and it struck me - the sauce on the sausage roll can be made alcoholic!

Trying to come up with another couple, I must admit.

Both flavours have been tried. The fruit sherbets dont really taste sherbet-y, going to try adding more sweets but fell a better result may have been had by sticking to just one fruit sherbet flavour.

Creamy Werthers is coming along nicely :)

My own flavoured vodka review...

Kola Cubes

Like any boiled sweet they dissolve well, don't need much filtering, taste nice - maybe add a drop of red food colouring otherwise it's a bit brown.

Pineapple chunks

Boiled sweet so dissolves well etc. Tastes lovely!

Pear drops

Again with the boiled sweet factor. I use just the yellow ones (my sweet shop sells a mixture of yellow and orange - they look at you a bit funny when you ask for just yellow ones). This is one of the best flavours IMO

Sour apple cubes

Again, a boild sweet so dissolves well, not much filtering. The flavour isn't very sour once it's in the vodka but that's fine by me. Like very strong apple sours. This is my favourite!

Werthers Originals

Makes lovely vodka but filtering takes ages. Well worth the wait I reckon.

Seaside rock

This made the most mess when breaking it up - I was finding bits stuck everywhere for weeks after. Tastes nice though, the one I used was bright blue too!

Mars bar

Tasted nice but a bit of curdling happened when making it which made it look a bit unappealing.

Jelly Belly Beans (1 bottle cherry, 1 bottle blueberry)

Like others have mentioned about fruit pastilles, jelly beans leave a gelatine mush in the bottom of the bottle. Also the flavour wasn't very strong. I wouldn't reccommend it.

I use 200g of sweets per 70cl bottle (with a bit emptied out to fit the sweets in). Boiled sweets don't tend to need the dishwasher treatment but things like werthers and mars bars do. And then the coffee filter to make a nice clear liquid.

This year I'm going to try the Foxes Glacier mints as someone suggested and will also be taking toffee (werthers) and sour apple as usual!

Finally purchased a litre of vodka. Now to locate the fruit peel/puree I bought months ago specifically to make flavoured vodka for the G. Plan on doing 2 types at 500ml each. Will experiment just with the dried fruit for a couple of weeks before adding any sugar (which I would prefer not to anyway).

Fair play, nice for the odd shot, but v sickly sweet to chug away at!

For something a bit different but utterly delicious.

CHERRY BAKEWELL VODDIE!!

Equal measures of Amaretto and cherry brandy, lashings of Vod n a splash of grenadine

Its like a cake in a shot, bit pricy to get it all together but soooooo very worth it! :D

This may be a bit bizarre, but vodka tomato ketchup is absolutely incredible! Tastes superb!

Here's my recipe:

You will need:

Big squeezy bottle of ketchup (More than you think you'll need)

Dried chilli flakes

Garlic salt

Hot chilli powder

Good strength vodka

What to do is:

Put the ketchup in a saucepan with the chilli flakes and put over a low-medium heat. WARNING: Once this starts to boil, it can 'erupt' like a volcano, so mind your knuckles! When it's bubbling away, add a little garlic salt and some more chilli powder. After five to ten minutes of bubbling and ruining your worktops, take it off the heat, leave it to cool, cover with tinfoil and put in the fridge for a couple of days to thicken right up. Add as much vodka as you can without it getting too runny, and whisk in immediately. Add more and more until it gets to the right consistency, then bottle.

The chilli masks a lot of the vodka flavour, but you still get a really nice vodka kick to go with it.

So, so f**king pleased with this, it's defo going on bacon rolls every morning at Glasto!

I sampled Vermeer Dutch Chocolate liqueur when I was at the London Wine Fair last week...its fecking AMAZING! The link has links to the companies that sell this elixir.

Got 2 samples to take away but its not enough for a party sadly. To taste though, imagine liquid Cadbury's dairy milk with a vodka kick! NOM!

My fruit vodka is coming along nicely too.

    • Interesting, and thanks for coming back to give an update! I've seen that the second stage looks bigger than usual too, looks to be a Serious Stages - Stellar Stage from distance photos.    Seems like sizing wise stages have been scaled up somewhat this year.
    • I see its cancelled now but they did leave it really late to announce plus they are up against Kelburn Garden Party Festival not to far from the festival site.
