Gazebos

Ok yes I know Gazebos in the camping section are a no no and frowned upon by your neighbours but what about in the camper van field?

The reason I am asking is that the van we are hiring does not have an awning and we would like somewhere to sit outside and chill with shade (as yes it will be sunny).

Surely having a gazebo next to your camper is the same as an awning? Cheers

We're going to be in the same position this year. Hiring a motohome with no awning so we'll take our pop up gazebo. Notionaally you are allocated a plot but some motorhomes are bigger than others, some have awnings and and some don't. It's all about common sense and, as with tenting, getting on with your neighbours.

rather than a gazebo, I recommend getting an awning for your tent.

There's an example here:-

The benefit is that it's much lighter to carry than a gazebo, smaller to carry than a gazebo, tougher than a gazebo, and it's much more likely that you'd take it home again and re-use it, unlike most gazebos which get left behind or break.

Yes and no to a tent awning. If you're taking a tent it's a good idea. If you're taking a motorhome it may not attach so easily. We take a pop up concertina gazebo bought from Argos six years ago. It's heavy but sturdy and will survive quite strong winds. It's lasted five Glastos plus other fests and is still up in my garden having coped with the snows.

This sort of thing http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/GAZEBO-2.5M-x-2.5M-EASY-POP-UP-CONCERTINA-BLUE-NEW_W0QQitemZ180517890417QQcmdZViewItem?rvr_id=203789664821&rvr_id=203789664821&cguid=4d28715112d0a0e20507ad37ffeee331

It would be heavy if you are camping but given that you'll have a motorhome to take it in it's probably the answer.

Cheapo gazebos aren't worth bothering with as the poles bend and they don't last, plus take a lot of time to put up.

I agree with Neil I hate to see equipment that breaks and just gets dumped. But ours has stood the test of time well. We've never left any equipment behind at a fest - not even a tent peg. Even if something breaks we still take it home to either repair or dispose of properly.
