My friend and I are thinking of making a trip over to Open'er this year, never been before. If someone could answer a few questions I have about the festival I'd greatly appreciate it...

We're probably going to make a holiday out of it and stay in a hotel in Gdynia for a week. Would this be within walking distance of the festival site? Can anyone recommend any nice budget hotels in Gdynia?

As for the festival site... Apparently there is a beach. Are there any stages on the beach? Are festival goers allowed to swim in the water? Is the weather usually nice at the time of the festival?

Any answers appreciated.

Thanks! :)

So:

a) festival site is few kilometers from citycenter... but there are buses from citycenter to festival non-stop :) . So it is not a problem. You can also have hotel in Sopod/Gdańsk, because you can go by train to Gdynia and then by bus(last year there were very good discounts for festivalgoers)

b)I can't recommend any hotel, but prices aren't very high. It is no problem to find hotel with 20EUR per night with high standart

c) I have never been on festival beach, it isn't just on festival site. There are no stages on beach :(

d) Weather is very good, even 30 Celcius degrees. But there are sometimes rainy days :)

Hope I helped

Ha! Aye, well we're definitely thinking about it. We went to Pukkelpop last year, which was amazing, but we fancy a wee change this year.

After looking into it flights are only £110 return, hotel is about £160 each for the week and tickets are only £78 for 4 days.

£350 is pretty cheap for a week's holiday with a 4 day festival included!

You're more than welcome. Is it just yourself or is there a group of you?

Remember, that there is only 2 headliners(Coldplay and Pulp), so there are still some big names going on :)

Tomorrow Ziolkowski will announce the inauguration of 10th anniversary :) . Event will take place in Warsaw one week before festival, there will be an art exhibition and some concerts :)

Arcade Fire won't be @ Open'er :)

It will be separate show one week before Opene'er Festival in Warsow (about 300km from festival's area:) )

It's kind of 'before party', and people who will buy (or just bought) e-tickets for this fest will have 50% discount for this show. Tickets cost 140 zl (about 35 euro), for people withs e-tickets will be (about 17 euro)

hello all

i went to opener in 2007 but haven't been back since, however pulp and m.i.a seem plenty to draw me back.

sorting a hotel with the missus, am i right in thiking the beach to train station is no more than a mile so a hotel inbetween is easily accesaible and should be safe to travel to/from at night?

also, when i was last there you could only buy beer (and only heiniken at that) on site, has this been relaxed by the sponsors?

cheers for any help/guidance,

I don't see why not, they're playing in europe the following week (Portugal, spain, maybe a few more). Bought t in the park tickets so hoping they'll turn up there since they usually save a big name for the second announcement, and strokes aren't big enough to headline t in the park.

I heard a rumour a while ago that the strokes would play Open'er. Another rumour was qotsa, but they have since announced a gig in warsaw so its looking doubtful now. KOL were also mentioned but they headlined only 2 years ago.

btw, the strokes gave a big hint that they would be headlining leeds/reading a couple of weeks ago in an interview.
