I was thinking this earlier; we only started doing the nov 11th silence at school when I was in 6th form (although it was school-wide), so about 1999-2000. Was it done before then?

I believe the silence on Sunday is meant to be nationwide - of course everyone is supposed to attend church and then visit the local cenotaph!

Yoiu don't particualry have to agree with it but if you can't stay quiet for 2 minutes once a year (tourettes aside) it's a poor show in my opinion. I bet you looked cool though beeping away with your shopping whilst everyone else showed some level of respect.

I did observe the 2 minutes silence, however i was in a Injury Free Environment course, so it was unavoidable really.

Having earlier that day listened to a speech given by the daughter of someone that was killed on a british construction site and then a video interview of the wife of another one killed. I decided to spend the time thinking about the families of those who choose to make the armed forces their career. Its always harder on the family. Sitting at home not knowing how their son/daughter/husband/wife etc is doing. Wondering on a daily basis if they will come home alive and in one piece.

The families do not choose to go to war, so i chose to keep them in my thoughts.

I want to know if everyone who complains about people not observing the 2 minutes silence, or not wearing poppy's really know what they are commemorating or whether they even spend that time thinking about those men and women? By making a huge deal out of it we lose sight of what it is about
