Getting into the spirit

One of the (many!) things I love about EOTR is seeing the artists really getting into the spirit of the festival, wandering around among the crowd, supporting other acts, turning up to do 'secret' sets etc, etc. Who do we know that were there for more than just their scheduled appearance(s)?

Obviously the Low Anthem, who have probably now become the 'official' pet EOTR band. I think they were there from Thursday and were still around right at the end, jumping around with the Felices in the Tipi.

Richard Hawley, another EOTR stalwart.

Allo Darling, camping, with family

The Daredevil Christopher Wright were camping just down from The Happy Campers

This Frontier Needs Heroes, New York's answer to Same Difference, were too.

Woodpigeon, and his chums, eagleowl

So, who else was there?

Darren Hayman was *everywhere* on Friday, I'm sure he was stalking us ;)

I said hello to Jason the guitarist from the Daredevil Christopher Wright on Friday, saw him and the rest of the band a couple of times on Sat as well - as GTG says they were camped just down from us.

Spotted Steven Adams in the Tipi on Fri night and Eamon Hamilton (swooooon) on Saturday night.

Also met one member of Stagecoach, and their manager, Alcopop Jack, who were lovely :)

Many many sightings of Jarvis Cocker and family - on the red bus, garden stage, secret gardens etc - and no I wasn't stalking them.

Can't believe no one's mentioned Ben Ottewell!

His two tiny kids spent most of his set dancing around the stage in the tipi. He even let them talk into the mic at one stage! Really lovely stuff.

Then a couple of hours later I saw him walking round with his wife and kids whilst drinking a coffee.

EOTR makes the divide between punter and performer at other festivals just look ridiculous. Music is all about artists connecting with the people who get pleasure from their work, and EOTR is the one festival where this can really happen. Long may it continue.

Spotted:

Geoff Travis, founder of Rough Trade records, sat on his own in a folding chair just a little bit away from the outside of the, err Rough Trade stall, during the Dylan Leblanc signing.

The bass player and guitarist from Citay (very cool dudes)

Got to talking to Jon from The Mountain & the Tress at the Woodland disco Saturday night, I complimented him on his awesome cardigan (seriously it was amazing) not knowing how he was, bloody lovely bloke.

Frank Fairfield.

My mate spotted Glenn Kotche by the loo's by the garden stage and also spoke to the guitarist from Phosphorescent.

I think it's great that so many artists want to check it all out, I remember a few years back Howe Gelb was in the queue ahead of me at the Goan Fish Curry stall.

I saw lots. Jarvis Cocker as a few people have mentioned. Had a great chat with the guitarist and bass player from Trembling Bells on the dance floor in the woods. They were loving it and really friendly to chat to! Also spotted Peter Silberman checking out Errors in the Big Top and camped almost right beside Allo Darlin (after having camped next to The Wave Pictures two years ago!)

We saw lots. Seems everyone saw Jarvis (us too), Richard Hawley also. We saw Edwyn Collins, Eamon Hamilton and various others from Brakes (pretty sure they stayed over the weekend as I saw Eamon hauling some stuff to the car park Sunday morn). We saw Adam Green at the secret dance floor and various New Pornographers wandering about. We saw Lee Gorton on various occasions, which never ceases to amuse me as we also see him EVERY year at Green Man (as a punter). He always goes down on the Thursday. We also saw Nels Cline and John Stirratt (sp?) of Wilco watching Phillip Selway.

    • If you didn't see melt banana at Apolo. Go see them at the festival. Insane.
    • Interesting, and thanks for coming back to give an update! I've seen that the second stage looks bigger than usual too, looks to be a Serious Stages - Stellar Stage from distance photos.    Seems like sizing wise stages have been scaled up somewhat this year.
    • I see its cancelled now but they did leave it really late to announce plus they are up against Kelburn Garden Party Festival not to far from the festival site.
