tackling fraud

I didn`t read it as tax fraudsters... I read it as benefit fraudsters. Thats what i based me reply on anyway.

I commented earlier about the amount of tax evasion that seems to be reletively ignored...but I think it is correct to say that the general public feel that benefit fraud is somehow worse than tax evasion.

In pure monetary terms...this of course is wrong...and if the govt actually were looking for revenue as such---they surely would be better off putting more resources into the tax dodgers.

If I were able to fraudulently claim double the amount of benefit I receive... you, my fellow countrymen would be £2500 a year worse off. Perspective or what?

Yeah I was talking of tax evasion. I meant I get annoyed at the double standards of mainly impoverished, disadvantaged people getting targeted while those well off enough to be able to pay their way get away with every little loophole, legal or otherwise, to get out of paying their taxes.

People get all kneejerk about 'benefit scroungers' benefiting from taxpayers' money, yet never seem to get worked up about those who are avoiding taxes, which is still effectively stealing from the public purse.

Exactly. But y`know, life etc etc... when I was a kid... I would say to me Mam "Why do we have to build all these bombs? Why cant they use the money to build hospitals" --y`know that sort of base moral argument which is sort of right--- but, The World aint like that is it.

Art.... millions are spent on all forms of art--- and people are starving to death. Doesn`t stack up really does it.

I often still find myself asking these sort of questions---but I know how to answer myself a bit more now.

And its the same with the issue we are discussing. In an ideal world, you would think people wouldnt be able to get away with these things...but they do--and we got to accept it in a funny sort of way. Life is very unfair in loads of areas.

All i know, is that I`m not a scrounger and have never claimed anything I haven`t been entitled to.

If I knew of anybody else in the same situation and claiming and getting more money than me.. well i must say---f**kin good luck to em...cos i know they need it.

BUT... I do know of one family who have all the trappings (and more) i have mentioned before...they all look as fit as f**k,always going out, nice clothes etc.... and have never done a days work since i can remember.

Theres a rabbit off there, I tell yer.

One final point. Resources. You go on ESA (employment and support) The sick. After so many weeks--yer called in to be examined by their doctor.

"Can you go to the toilet on your own"

"Can you climb 2 steps!"

"Can you put your clothes on?"

"Can you touch your knees"

...these are the very base questions that are asked.

I knew at that point... I`d be off ESA even though legitamately, my asthma is sometimes so dehabilitating that I cannot walk 4 paces etc.

So, I was told to Appeal. Appeal I said? I`ve got ZERO POINTS... I got no chance!

Yes...but it will buy you time!

????

And so you go through all this Tribunal caper which takes ages. All proper stuff. Letter headed paper...Judges etc---- someone is making a fortune out of this.

Its not right. f**kin millions are being spent like this. I was told eveybody is doing it too....just appeal--even if you dont win (and you wont)... you will stay on ESA for a few more months.

ESA for anybodies info--- you dont get any more money basically---but you dont have to sign on and be hounded to go for shite jobs etc etc.

Two wrongs make a right? Where have I said such a thing? Stop putting words in my mouth. I dislike benefit cheats, but I think it's utterly insane to focus on them at the expense of the companies and individuals avoiding paying their taxes especially if the the amount of money involved is fifty times the size of the other.

It's about priorities. You'd be spending equal time fretting about the guineau pig as the bear. Crazy.

I will send time worrying about BOTH... You keep justifying one by pointing out the other... You push the idea we should ignore them... You attack any move to correct the issue...

It isn't... Also what most of you lot call tax dodging are within the rules... Where as the benefit stealing is well and truly out of the rules... Something which is always lost on you lot :)

Rubbish. You actually posted a couple of weeks ago that tax evasion wasn't as bad as benefit cheating because tax dodgers at least got off their arse!

It's about prioritising. A lot of time and effort is being put into capturing the guineau pig whilst the bear roams free.

I quite like the analogy. It fits perfectly. A fully grown bear is about fifty times the size of a guineau pig. I thought it might make it a bit more obvious to you what you are actually advocating. Obviously not.

Well wake up fella and don't think everyone who votes Labour is going to pander to benefit cheats and ignore how much money that 1% up at the top actually put into the system...

You really might want to look at the last 13 years of the Labour government fella...

If you believe in Labour values you should be questioning why those at the top, percentage wise, pay very little and be aiming to look at the causes of long term unemployment and why it occurs, and trying to change it, than calling them names and poking fun of them.

    • Proper special gig tonight. They won't mean much to most people, but The Dogs D'Amour were one of the most significant bands of my youth.   Tyla, yer main man of said band, was playing in Birkenhead tonight. Not many there, but it was going fine. Then he decided he didn't like the smoke and the flashing lights so suggested moving the gig to the beer garden. Off we all went, and it was magical. Like having your favourite musician play in your garden. I absolutely loved it.   Before:     After:
