Few questions from a first timer

Hey, going to glasto for the first time this year, I've been to Leeds festival a few times before and a couple of foreign festivals so I'm no a complete newb to this, just was wondering a few things.

First what are the food & drink prices like? Is it standard festival - ie. £3.50 for a pint of beer and there's only 1 choice and £7 for burger and chips? Or more expensive, or less?

Second what are the toilet facilities like, similar to Leeds/Reading? Better/worse?

Also what time do things wind down at the end of the night?

Drinks prices - about £3.50 a pint is probably about right. However there tends to be a fairly good selection of choices available at Glasto. I'm a cider drinker rather than beer so can't comment on what beers they sell, but there's a good choice of cider. You can also get around the booze prices by bringing your own - i usually take a fair bit with me and then buying a few pints.

Food wise - about £7 will buy you a good and tasty meal. Although you can spend more or less. There is simply LOADS of different types of food available at Glasto - much more than simply burgers and chips. You can find virtually anything that you might fancy. The key is to shop around - buying from the stall near the main stages means you'll probably have less choice and may pay more. Check out the Green Fields and West Holts area for more choice and better value.

Toilets - can't compare to Reading and Leeds as i've never been. The toilets aren't great - this is a festival after all. There are portaloos, long drops and some flushing toilets. The portaloos are generally a bad choice! I stick to the long drops and have never found these too bad. The flushing loos are good if you're nearby but can have long queues.

Main stages run until about 11-11.30pm i think. But Glasto never sleeps! There's always something happening! There's plenty of late night entertainment choice - check out Arcadia, Trash City and Shangri La. I believe there's some other late night areas on offer this year too.

I would say glastonbury toilets get cleaned more often than the leeds ones but timing is everything

The portaloos (or more endearing - turdis), most having a dedicated cleaning team in more busier areas. There are 4000 turdii on site apparently. I have found they have got cleaner and cleaner as the years have gone on and unlike Leeds/Reading...no toilet tipping!

On the whole food prices tend to be similar if not slightly lower than the other major festivals. The choice is also far better and the quality of the food is amazing. R/L festivals tend to serve burgers, chips and noodles but at Glastonbury you can get pretty much everything, even stone fired pizzas.

Also at Glastonbury you can take your own booze anywhere you want, there is no arena and once your through the gates you won't be searched again.

I've always found the toilers far better at Glastonbury, the long drops smell much less than portaloos and most people are much more considerate of the state they leave them in. I've seen some sights in portaloos at Leeds that are burned onto my retinas forever, I've never seen anything as bad at Glastonbury.

Therefore, a long-drop in the campsites or to east is likely to be nicest.

The flushing loos are overrated.

Catch a portaloo at the wrong time, and you're going to have a horrible shock. I tend to avoid the portaloos altogether when possible.

The flushing toilets near Pyramid are clean about 08.00 - 08.30 in the morning. I always use them and leave clean after me. WaterAid people working hard there. But I usually wake up early.

Without a doubt long drop loo's are my preference, if you catch to portaloo's just after they have been emptied/cleaned then they are bearable.

Choice of food is unbelievable if you shop around. I don't go near the burger bars nearest the main stages as they don't offer good value for money or quality. My favourites include the mexican stall at West Holt/Jazz World, Yam the Casava (Greenfields?), there is an exotic meat stall if you want something unusual such as ostrich, kangaroo or even crocodile! I always get a Dimble Burger too, just as you leave West Holts on your way to Green Fields. As a vege option I like the Falafals on offer between the Other Stage and Dance village. You are looking at around £7 for a decent sized meal, about £4-5 for burgers etc

As for drink I take as much as I can carry (remember no glass bottles though). Brothers Pear Cider is always a must for me, again at West Holts.

i just looked at the part 6 of the FAQs on glastoearth and scrolling through the pictures, its so cool. this is my third year now and ive got 36 bands/artists down on paper but after seeing all that stuff like the circus, acrobats etc im thinking, f**k all the bands i just wanna do weird stuff like all of that!
