i have been offered a spare ticket for glasto as someone i know cant go and cannot get a refund, and was wondering if it is worth risking it with the photo ID?

do they check the photo? or just tear off the stub?

is it worth the risk?

They didnt even take a glance at my ticket. He took it right out of my hand, ripped off the side, and put the wristband on my arm.

Your always gonna hear stories about them checking it thoroughly but from my experience i could of had a picture of micheal eavis on it and they wouldnt of cared.

At the end of the day, you've got a ticket and thats all their worried about.

This. Every year since the pictures were put on the ticket I've not only had the picture checked, but the UV marks on the ticket verified too. And I used to take the campervan so it meant going in and out many times. Every time they checked the photo (and glanced up at me to see if it was me). In fact, I've never seen them not at the very least verify that the ticket was genuine by putting it under the UV, and certainly never had someone just rip the stub off and put my wristband on.

Everytime I have been before they seem to not even bother checking the ticket photo, most of the time the pics are that blurry you could get away with it anyway.

Pics change, some people have had the same registration pic for years. I would just make sure you get to one of the gates at peak traffic time.

Remember, the people that are checking you in and putting the bands on are volanteers, they want everyone to have a good festival just as they do. I really can't see them being that bothered, unless you look nothing like what the pic does.

Good luck!

I have to hold my hand up here as I don't enter via the normal gates but when I was taking some stuff from the car in the staff carpark I got the impression there was two people checking each ticket.

if I switch it to something I do know about - say I was working in the bar and a underage teenager came up and showed a fake id and tried to slip me £ 20 for me to turn a blind eye I know exactly what I would do.

I would get Security to grab him and he would be reported to Police.

Crews at Glastonbury are not going to risk their jobs { unpaid or not } so its not a very good idea to offer a bribe.

Bit harsh to be honest mate! I'd tell the kid to do one in no uncertain terms but to call the police on him is a bit harsh. At the end of the day you're doing your job by refusing to serve him or her, there's no need to get them arrested or thrown off site.

As for the ticket thing I don't think you can compare the two. It's against the law to supply alcohol to an underage person, it's not to let somebody into the site with somebody elses ticket.

If I was on the gate i'd be inclined to let it slide providing nobody else had seen the ticket. What's the point seriously in ruining somebody's weekend over a technicality? Rules are rules yeah but those rules are in place to stop touting and a bloody good job they are doing.

I think the odd one or two people who happen to have come across a spare ticket shouldn't be penalised.

Agree totally with glasto-worker. Yes, the people working are volunteers but they also have a lot of responsibility. All are told about the council and others testing the system. If any council people were to get in on someone else's ticket it could make a difference to the licence in the future. So the volunteers cannot take the risk. And I agree completely that it's unfair to put them in a difficult position. We are all there trying to help everyone have a great time at the best festival in the world!

Of course, you might just get someone who isnt bothered but dont bet on it. And if they are spotted by one of the team leaders they will lose their deposit and wont have the chance to work there again in the future.

I take it you don't have any experience in working in a bar - I only have 21 years.

It could be the local authorities running a sting operation so testing the staff.

it could be the Bar operators testing the staff.

either way I cant turn a blind eye as everyone who works in a bar has to sign a contract agreeing to be bound by The Licensing Act 2003

the two are alike as people should not put staff in a situation where they may risk their job.

ticket checkers would not have a clue the source of the tickets so it could be a best friend or a tout on ebay selling them.

if ticket checkers were likely to turn a blind eye for £ 20 then this would increase ticket touts not reduce them.

if they can be bought so cheap why bother with a ticket in the first place.

people are only looking at it one way .

If you were on that gate and there was a good possibility that you would be caught and may risk prosecution for fraud and of course you can kick goodbye to your job would you risk it ?

JFC! Prosecution for fraud? Get real.

I think the sensible thing, in both of these hypothetical situations is for the employee to just refuse. The whole "grabbed by security and sent to trial in Berlin" is just spiteful.

And before you come with the whole "And lose my job" rhetoric, its only a part time f**cking bar job.

so your a expert on the act are you - you don't have a clue what local authorities gets up to and I have seen mystery shoppers { set up with trading standards } walking about with fake ID and I have seen them at every event we work at each year.

So does that mean you would be willing to accept bribes ?

so you don't mind taking the risk - well you do the job and see how you get on.

Anyone trying to offer a bribe in any situation has to be prepared for the consequences.

From the organisers' perspective, I think gate staff have to be instructed to be strict, and I think there should be anti-bribery measures like working in pairs.

Clearly it doesn't matter if a few people sell their tickets at face value, and some people get through with tickets that have someone else's face on.

But if there's enough people coming out of the festivals with stories of getting in with the wrong ticket, and if there are no stories of people saying "I tried it on, but they checked the photo so I wasted £200", then gradually people will get used to the idea that the photos aren't checked, and the touts will be able to swing back into action.

So yeah, if I was running it, then a wise gate staff person would check carefully at least some of the time, and would certainly not accept bribes. They'd lose the job and get chucked off the site. They'd be blacklisted and not be able to work for the festival again ever. I assume Glastonbury, Oxfam, WBC and others share a blacklist?
