ok, so this is going to be my first glastonbury festival,

i dont really like any of the bands, but im going for the experience..

i dont like U2 much, although i know most of their songs.. so was walming to the idea of seeing them

i have a pretty broad spectrum of music that i like BUT:

i wont be watching any bands i havent heard of, and i wont really be bothered about watching bands playing songs i dont know..

so this rounds down the selection of music i am interested in seeing to the contents of my ipod..

im very interested in viewing whatever else is about, trying all the different food from the stalls etc.. and watching a lot of what goes on in the other types of entertainment, comedy tent etc...

fair enough, the headliners and more famous acts have songs on the radio that i know, but are they goign to do an hour set of songs ive never heard before? great... the way i see it is that i might as well watch the highlights of most of the bands on the tv when i get home...

if you see a guy sitting on his own looking the wrong way to the stage -- that'll be me..

I think you'll enjoy yourself if you try some things out that you've not heard before. One of my favourite acts from last year was a blues guy I'd never heard of playing some keen blues on the Glade Stage at mid-day on the Friday. Looked at the list of who was playing, didn't see anything that I recongnised and really wanted to see, so just strolled by the Glade and was really happy I did.

Anything else is cutting off your nose to spite your face.

Looked at the list of who was playing, didn't see anything that I recongnised and really wanted to see, so just strolled by the Glade and was really happy I did.

When do you ever get into new music? Do you hear it on the radio? Does a mate lend you a CD? Maybe you heard it on an advert?

i heard plan b a few years ago, and heard his latest song on the radio.. i have his albums now,

before the plan b cd the latest cd ive bought was a long time ago...

i have 442 albums on my itunes, and less than 10% of them are from the last 5 years

im thinking just like that, ill be wandering around, as i have no interest in most of the big bands, i think ill be looking around for something different...

That's one of my favourite things about Glasto, and what people will realise if they haven't been before.

If you're a bit disappointed with the line up don't be, half the stuff I see every year is people I've never heard of and they are what I look forward to most.

One of my favourite sets was Urban Voodoo Machine in the Ballroom at Lost Vagueness in 2005, never heard of them and they were a highlight for me that year, still listen to the CD we bought off them after the set.

In fact, I want to see someone on every stage this year, and at least one band/act I've never heard of every day......

Spend some time on youtube/spotify or one of those web places listening to some tunes from the listed bands. Hear a track you like the sound of, make a beeline for that band when they're on.

There's so much variety going on, quite often I've just walked round letting my ear guide me. Hear something you like, stick around, if you get bored walk for a few minustes and there's another stage for your pleasure. Guestimates between 50 - 80 stages for you to do that with. No chance to get bored

Upon arrival you'll be given a programme, which lists all of the bands playing - and typically there is some information as to the type of music they play

If you like comedy rap I'd look at Mr B the gentleman rhymer who's been plugged on here before. Playing Croisant Neuf on the Sat I think.

For Blur, maybe Phoenix?

Friday - the flaming lips

Saturday - the national

Sunday - i am kloot

and you will be guaranteed to have seen at least one excellent band per day

I've not looked into in great detail yet, but seems to have picked some of the 'more popular' songs from a lot of artists appearing. Add that to Spotify and put it on shuffle - see if there is anything there you like?

Even if you didn't see one band you will have a fantastic time

It's true escapism from the horrible world for 3-5 days - total freedom

You won't even have to put an effort in to have a good time because it will happen on its own.

Just leave your worries at home and go have fun : )

I'm sure OP is a joke (right?)

But just in case. I decided a couple of years ago that I stand a good chance of enjoying pretty much *any* live music. I was in Tokyo alone, and entertaining myself by frequenting the music venues of Shibuya. Since I didn't know anything about any of the bands, and had barely enough Japanese to establish whether there was a band playing on a particular night, I was seeing arbitrary stuff, and I had a whale of a time.

Of course if you go around seeing arbitrary music, there will be the occasional dud. But for me at least, the hit rate is extraordinarily high. Even small town open mic nights work for me

Popping into the Croissant Neuf tent mid afternoon without looking at the programme has paid dividends. Or even a random Trash City tent.

One of our favourites from last year was found when wandering past the glade too (whilst running from Holts and the Jazz Veruca that is Jamie Cullum) Dr Meaker playing live drum n bass, top notch stuff
