Guardian Lounge to go

The vibe of this stage has been to me as being a cross between 'Miami & Magaluf' & that the attire is 'bikinis'. It doesn't bear thinking about.

It's doing a tour of many of the festivals including bestival.

It has a retractable roof spanning between two articulated lorry trailers that can be closed quite quickly during inclement weather.

Don't be surprised if they have a foam machine inside.

Plus you don't HAVE to go in it. I don't think I've ever been in the Guardian Lounge. It's not mandatory playstations for all.

I was really looking forward to visiting the Guardian Lounge. Only heard great things about it.

I actually think that is bollocks. It is a loss for all the people who actually wanted to go to Glastonbury to spend time doing something other than playing computer games but couldn't get a ticket because some numpty who wants to sit in a tent doing something they could do at home got the ticket instead.

As mentioned several times already on this thread: There. Are. No. Playstations. In. The. Tent. There are a couple of hours a day of Singstar, but this has been the case for the last three years at least in The Snug, and The Queen's Head before that.

One corporate sponser who has funny Charlie Brooker articles I like has been replaced by one that makes games I'm not fond of? Glastonbury has become a corporate capitalistfest now. Come on people The Guardian isn't a benevolent charity they're a company, the change here is pretty minor just people's perceptions of the brand.

And, for financial woes, add to that the Times (losing £1.5m per week) and the Indy (sold for a £1).

Of the generalists (i.e. excluding the FT), that leaves the Telegraph. They're back in profit now, after previously making a loss.

So all is not well in broadsheet land.

Any money made, from what I understand, goes back into the Trust to keep the company running. Presumably the staff get paid, some probably more than others, but there aren't any owners sitting around taking huge chunks of it.

If they make a loss, then the money in the Scott Trust pot diminishes.

So all businesses are the same because they make (or have the potential to make) money and because of that it doesn't matter what businesses feature at or contribute to the festival???

Glastonbury gives bucket loads to charities, tries to promote worth while causes etc a paper is a paper in my view, they take a story put their own little slant on it and publish it hoping to get our money. Nothing like Glasto in my view.

Fair comment, and in a lot ways I agree with you, but I think the Guardian has an interest in freedom of the press, which it's trying to uphold. I think the festival would side with that aspect.

Massive difference being Vs big stages are corporate billboards where the majority of people go to and are all over the media.

The Guardian Lounge was small, was sponsored by a company where few people went and got little media coverage.

The Playstation thing is small, is sponsored by a company where few people will go and will get little media coverage.

Difference?

Sorry bench buddah (and others) I think you're way off the mark with your comments about the guardian. It is effectively a trust for responsible journalism. Apart from the BBC it is the only news outlet in this country not motivated by profit but instead motivated by expressing liberal ideals, holding those in power to account and maintaining freedom of expression.
