I feel like having a right old moan. Why do some people feel they need to spend entire sets with their bleedin' low-res camera-phones in the air? Their arms swaying and elbows in other peoples faces. What happened to enjoying the moment? YOU CAN'T CAPTURE TIME PEOPLE! No matter how many photos you take you won't ever be able to have that moment again so bloody well enjoy it while it's there. never seen the point of filming on your phone esspecially at a festival when your trying to conserve your battery. if you taking still then yes thats a nice way to remember it I'm taking my dslr this year and am excited to be photographing my glasto but wont spend the whole festival trying to get shits. infact I think my shots will be from around the site rather than the bands.

I was like a Japanese tourist last year with my camera by my side at all times My phone battery would have died in 5 mins if I'd used it, and the photo quality wasn't that good anyway.

One of the worst types of people to be stuck behind at gigs (besides tall people, ha) is someone either filming entire songs on their phone or taking hundreds of really sh it pictures of the same guy with the same guitar stood behind the same mic stand. Aside from the fact it's pointless, I can't take in the performance properly if I have a million little viewfinders around the edges of my field of vision.

In a perfect world, it'd be nice if punters respected the same rules that apply to photographers with photo pit access: three songs, no flash. That's right, get it all out of your system then put the camera and phones away and enjoy the gig properly.

Also, 'lens', just to be a tit.

I think taking a camera is a very important thing in a way. It motivates and inspires you to explore the site for interesting things to take pictures of to show people when you go home.

You see people taking pictures and I just say 'say facebook!!!'. People are too busy thinking about the album/vidoes they will load when they get back to enjoy the moment.

I can honestly say that I am completely gulity of doing this. It's a complusive need to get a good picture of the moment. So I need to take like 20 pictures to get 2 good ones, and I'm too cheap to buy a £200 + camera just for amazing quality.

Unfortunately this complusion doesn't pay off because my camera battery died just before Blur last year

Theres not one moment i find myself without a camera in my hand. Its usually my phone but thats the latest Sony Ericsson which probably has a better camera than most mid range cameras these days. I enjoy taking pictures + videos as when its all over, i can sit there and watch/look through the stuff ive taken and enjoy it again . I usually find myself uploading to sites like Facebook soo the rest of my friends can see what such a good time we've had.

f**kign cameras. it's one thing I don't get. Especially at a gig, when I've yet to see a photo/video footage that didn't look like someone with parkinsons trying to focus on a grainy dot in the distance.

But cameras, generally, drive me up the f**king wall. I've got a brain, I can use to recall smells, sights, sounds, atmosphere, I don't need a f**king picture. added to which most people take a picture then look at it and show you immediately afterwards on a tiny screen on the back of the camera.

'Oh yeah, look, it's that thing that's right in front of me, only a 100th of the size and reduced to a static image devoid of context. Great. got any more'.

I'm taking my full on DSLR kit.

A big part of the trip for me is the photography element and a chance to shoot someplace that I've never been before and may not ever get to see again. I actually bought a new camera as a part of my planning for the trip.

Of course I've been shooting concerts (when possible and allowed) since I was a kid int he 70's using my trusty Minolta XG-7 that I would drag along to clubs and shooting B/W film so I could develop it myself.

But, I agree with the OP that camera phones are pretty much a waste.

There's a time to shoot and a time to stop and enjoy the music and the atmosphere...some folks just don't remember to stop and enjoy the moment too.

Usually return from festivals with gigabytes of shots/video/sound, though make sure I don't block anyones view doing it. Wouldn't bother with mobile phones.

Great looking at others pics after the event (as above), some amateur video is excellent quality too these days. BBC does a great job of not showing the stuff I want to see anyway.

Should we ban every thing that you don't want to do? For Gods sake , ranting over the fact that people take pictures is taking intolerance just a bit too far, you dont like it DONT f**kIN DO IT not complex is it.

Let other people make other choices without having to justify it to you.

Photos are wonderful, I love them for the memories they bring back, the reminders of all the amazing and fun things you see. My memory only holds so much information at any one time, so having a set of pics to browse and remember stuff is just lovely. I love sharing pics too, showing off where I've been, who I've met, what I've done, and seeing other people's perspectives and fun times.

A picture says a thousand words, as the saying goes.
