world cup

I'd miss most people to see england in a world cup game. i will be at glastonbury for 5 and a half days, 3-4 hours out of that to go and watch our country in the world cup finals that is only on once in 4 years is not a hard thing to do.

so please mr/miss eavis stick the last 16 game on somewhere and i will not have to travel out of the grounds in search of some footy.

to somewhere near. i have no idea, but it would be a 10 min drive to get to it i am sure. though i am hoping that they would show it, and i am sure that they will. i do not seriously believe that they would show every game in a special world cup tent, i do think that that is going away from what glastonbury is (would be bloody nice though). but they would seriously have pressure from punters if they were not to show our next stage match (which i hope we get to) somewhere on site for a reasonable sized audience. too many people would leave the site to watch it and this is something that would prob upset the surround areas town folk.

A 10 minute drive? Where would you go that would be able to accomodate x hundred people who think the same as you? The local pub in Pilton? Glastonbury or Shepton Mallet Town Centres?

You're not going to be the only one on site who would leave if it wasn't shown at the festival, so there would be a huge migration of people all trying to find a nearby pub to watch an England game.

I'm sure I've said somewhere already about this but the festival just needs to make clear what it's going to do about showing the last 16 game (if england get there). If they show it then it's got to be somewhere that's not going to impact on the festival for those that have paid for their tickets and have no interest in the footy. If you don't like what they propose then don't come. As much as I love football, I don't think that the Glastonbury organisers should be doing much to appease the footy fans amongst us. We all knew the festival fell during the world cup when we booked our tickets.

I would have thought this would been limited, and not on the scale you would see outside of the festival where idiots where smashing cars built in the country of our opponents. I have a bit more faith in the regular festival goer

Ill try and find the thread

This is the sort of shit partisan attitude "footy" fans will bring to glastonbury with them if the games are shown.

"Banter" between scottish and english fans is inevitable. Add strong cider to the mix and violence and ill feeling is almost certain.

Why risk it? Why?

No football, thank you.

That fellow I quoted was earlier saying if they dont show the fotoball he will smash the place up.

I may have called a selection of people whoppers, but I have never threatened violence of any kind.

Our think our Catford Comrade was taking the piss mate. I've seen him in a few threads saying similar things.

I'm sure he doesn't really think like that.

This ain't no wind up. If England lose, or even concede, I'm going to push over the long drops, every single one of them, and steal 19 tents. Me and my crew will then throw pancakes at ANYONE who's not from South London.

Take it as a wind up if you want, but this is some serious shit.

Football in. f**k the music, all the bands that play Glastonbury are shit anyway. (I only go for the gear and the minge)

Running down the hill with my mans from Peckham

Robbing kids of alcopops we laugh then neck 'em

And over in Wrexham the boy watch Corrie

And over in Hexham Kenneth Noye is sorry

Saved by the bell and round the twist

Ravin' is hell when your mounds are blissed

And over in the park, the deers lock horns

And over in the dark, the queers knock lawns

The above pretty much sums this debate up. Hopefully this "Russycarps" character will broaden his mind and realise that people who follow football are better than those that don't.

I’m a Leeds fan, followed them up and down the country for years. I have a good job, I’m a respectable citizen and am quite frankly fed up with the stereotypes a few Neanderthals in the 70’s and 80’s created that people can’t seem to shake off. The vast majority of Leeds fans are top people who rarely go out to cause any violence. I will be at the festival, watching the England match, in my Leeds top and if we go out will commiserate with a few lagers and be grateful I’m at the best festival in the world to quickly forget about it.

    • It was always going to be the cost. stuff like this:
    • Man/Woman/Chainsaw anyone? Still 4-5 secret sets to be filled.   New album out today and Rough Trade friendly.
    • can't edit, but just to add to the above:   i get that the last bit is meant to reinforce the message that they are all horrible people and closing ranks to cover up what has happened and carry on with their lives while poor Celeste is left alone with her trauma...   i get it thematically, i just really hated the way it was on screen and i say that my ending would have made for a better movie.   🙂
    • Sadly, the ticket map below screams rear 5 blocks not on sale or never have been on sale. Especially when you look at the blue blocks with rows of unsold tickets.   And I say all of this as a big fan of Muse.
    • Personally, I don't think there will be any changes to the queuing system in place for the 2025 sale.  GFL will be aware that true bots are a risk, but they may also see large collectives of organised folks running multiple devices, containers or profiles to get an advantage as bots themselves, and then struggle to know where to draw the line without penalising folks who are simply more on the ball than others.   They will also be acutely aware that engineering tech to close those gaps will cost, and therefore eat into the money they are able to pass to the Charities, without passing those costs on to punters in the ticket price, which they will be cautious of doing especially after a 2 year break and the inevitable media coverage that will get.   This may all be naive and overly trusting of me though.....
