Leaving on the sunday after Stevie?

We're booked into a hotel in Glastonbury on the Monday night so we'll be there to the end !

Oh yes I know that alot goes on on the Sunday night (out with a bang and all that) and I would like to stay-however I want to avoid the rush to get out of the carpark starting Monday morning. I might stay till the end of Orbital or maybe go later-depends how tired I am and what everybody else wants to do

This is a great idea, we do the same, it's marvellous to get to a lovely clean hotel for a shower, fresh bedding and no neccessity to unload the car

I personnaly get hammered and stay up all night sunday. its a tradition now. normally get up about 3pm pack up, straight out the site an hour later. One year (2003) i had to leave earlier. I moved the car to the furthest out car parks and right by the exit. pain in the arse on sunday morning but worth it at 6am the next day

Here's a question.

Assuming the sunday headliner finished at 11. Would you;

A. be better leaving at 11:05 - along with everyone else who is leaving after the headliners - but be quick and try and beat everyone out who is messing around packing up tents etc.

B. wait a couple of hours - have a last wander round, soak up that final bit of atmosphere - then leave about 1am

Would the rush have passed by 1? Do the queues die down after the initial rush? Or once the festival is over (by which I mean Pyramid headliner has closed the festival) do the queues just get longer and longer until late monday night?

In 07 i packed up all my stuff and dumped it in the car in the morning (you could use a lockup if you only have 1 pack or something) to makea speedy getaway after the who and it was piece of piss. Got straight out.

Had a bit of hassle with the mud though.

all that said it comes down to luck!!! we left stright after blur had finished last year . we had already taken all our kit back t the car sunday morning , and we were stuck in the car park for 3-4 hours before moving out of the car park! it just depends where you are parked and whoever else in your said park decides on the same plan.

The festival is pretty much over by the Sunday night. Monday is just a trying to leave day. I plan to leave Sunday night

What time did you get to Leeds? I take it Blur finished at about 11 ish?

Blur finished around midnight, so back up to Leeds by that times is really good going! (I live in Huddersfield, not too far from Leeds)

Booked the ferry home for Tuesday this year so we have all day on Monday to chill and get to Plymouth, before heading home 7am tuesday morning

Bliss- and means I can stay up all night on Sunday

I could 'hear and see; the parties last year, but couldn;t join in coz had to be in Weymouth for lunchtime for the trip home

Elongating the time is the way forward :-)

Staying Sunday night and leaving at your leisure, later on Monday is the best if you've got the time.

If you need to be on your way on Sunday night then pack up and take everything to the car Sunday morning like other said. But if you are parked in a field well inside the site, then I suggest you get in the car, drive off site turn around and come back in, you'll be directed to a car park field which is probably a lot closer to the road. Takes a bit more time on Sunday morning and you'll be walking further to the car on Sunday night, but you should miss a lot of the queues.

Works in West car parks (you'll be on the other side of the road from site). Last year they emptied those fields out into the country lanes to the North which probably made things even faster. Dunno if it works in the East car parks cos I've never used them.

I did exactly what you are thinking of doing the first year I went (2008) as we had to get back to Bedfordshire. Let me tell you!, I had serious REGRETS.

1) You miss out on all the parties of Sunday night (AMAZING)

2) The traffic is still bad (took us approx 2.5 hours to leave car park)

3) If you just chill out/hang over Monday morning and leave about 2/3pm its easy to get out (last year, we left the car park in a measly 4 n half minutes...)

not to mention the fact that if you want to leave on sunday night you have to start taking stuff to the car sunday afternoon, i.e missing alot of the action on the sunday. totally pointless.

I say just chill out and stay in the festival mood as long as possible! let it get to monday afternoon then think about leaving

Yep as others have said stay Sunday night..

We did lasy year but wint back to the tent after Prodidgy..

Had been steady on the beer so got up early and drove straight off site at 6am

Stevie is going to be a special moment.. The last thing you want to be thinking about is leaving site.

We were back in Leeds by 12.30 because our little lad had to be at school on Monday, It was either miss Blur or not go at all, Looks like same again this year with stevie which we are gutted about But to miss one act out of 5 days is worth it
