Maccabees & Jamie T

Just wondering what peoples thoughts were on either of these playing this year? Seem to be plaaying alot of festivals but no rumours for Glasto as yet. Both highlights for me last year and have both grown in popularity since the last festival. Obviously Jamie T would progress to The Other Stage but Maccabees?? Would they be offered a similar slot to last year??

I saw the Maccabees whilst waiting for f**ked Up to come on. Thought they were pretty boring if I'm honest. Quite bland and nothing special. Having said that, it seems to be a popular thing these days so could maybe see them on a early/mid slot on the other stage this year.

I've got a feeling Maccabees will end up in the John Peel this year, probably second from top. I'm hoping Jamie T has mid-afternoon slot on the Other Stage. He seems to always be at festivals I go to but I never manage to see him, I should be able to if he's playing then

Saw Jamie T in leeds the other week and he was excellent. For a Monday night gig in January he really got the crowd going. Would prefer to see him later on maybe third from top of other stage. I think he's one of the acts who are good when your sober but great when your smashed

I think the same as you, Maccabees will be high up the bill in the JP (or perhaps even headlining) and Jamie T for the Other Stage. I've never seen him at a fest either, but I did see him in Southampton a while back and he was awesome. Perhaps he'll lose a bit of his stage presence on the Other Stage though, considering he usually plays in tents at festivals?

Oh, and the Maccabees were funking awesome last year, they even made the sun come out! Brilliant!

Maccabees are a freakin great band and getting better and better. They're def one of the strongest live bands i've seen in recent years and are fast becoming my fav band.

John Peel headline would be well up their street and i'd be there over anything confirmed so far!

I had heard from someone that the Maccabees set last year wasn't as good as they were expecting, but I've seen them live elsewhere 4 or 5 times now & they've always been superb, so I'm really hoping to see them on this year's lineup!

:P

I don't know what it is about him tbh, I just don't like his style. Fair enough he seems a talented lad and some of his folky songs are great but that Sheila goes out with her mate stella song is shit and so is that Emilys heart one. I don't know what it is but I can't stand music that trues to be all poetic and acousticy because it seems like they are trying to put it on as some kind of fake image. There are a few exceptions but I generally prefer the out of tune, heartfelt stuff.

    • Any festival is going to face most of the same limitations just by the nature of the event. It's not realistic to accommodate custom staging that extends out deep into the field. Trying to do so and trying to rebuild those kind of structures at the front of the field every day would severely impact on other performers, potentially even including other headliners. It'd also drive everyone involved insane. The most you can get away with is a basic extension that doesn't hide anything fancy. Remember that a lot of the time on these big choreographed shows, the stage extension itself will contain all manner of things to help the show beyond just being a simple platform. Also remember that these structures are designed to be assembled and operate on perfectly flat stadium or arena floors.   In terms of the stage itself - yes, the Pyramid is undersized (I believe 16 metres wide at rigging level). The de facto industry standard has become 20 metres and so it likely does need increasing and apparently there are plans to do so. But that only helps with artists that can largely confine themselves to the stage.   The Other Stage is already 20 metres - to be exact the Other Stage structure is the same model that Serious Stages provide to Reading, Leeds, Download etc for use as their Main Stage and there's nothing larger (at least off the shelf) in their catalogue. So no reason to change that.
    • Can someone remind me, on Harry Styles specifically - have we had any concrete info on him?   I don't personally remember saying much/anything on him, though I have just been away for a month, so could be forgetting something.
