i can't resist resurrecting...

Out of pure interest and with no experience of cups and sponges can someone tell me if they leak? 'conventional' methods are all pretty crap imo and totally agree with strudders that sanitary products should be free; i feel a campaign coming on :D

So sean by your user name I will assume your male. My lack of wanting to use a mooncup has nothing to do with me not wanting the help the environment and everything to do with the fact:

I do not want to shove a silcon cup up me, collect menstral blood in it, pull it out, wash it out in my sink and then shove it back up.

Would you shoot your load in a condom wash it out and use it again?

I wish there were more environmentally friendly alternatives to tampons and such like other then the mooncup, ie something that most woman would want to use.

So yeah get off your high horse and think before you post.

OMG!

I swear I have never ever cringed so much at a thread than i just have at this one.

How funny! Mooncup is wrong wrong wrong.

The concept is interesting but at somewhere like glaso i highly doubt everyone else would appreciate anyone washing their cup out in the sink.

I too now hear the Moonpig theme in my head whenever i see the mooncup mentioned.

I too was blushing and trying not to make contact with the screen....would you believe it, im a female, who has 2 children and yes, also trained to be a midwife yet this is..oooh, let me say again.

JUST WRONG!!

:O

Hm interesting thoughts... MY friend uses one and apparently it's the best thing ever - lots more hygienic, less expensive and saves the world at the same time. Bonus really! I don't see why people are freaking out about it though - it's just the same as a towel, still catching the stuff but you have to wash it out. Which is why you should never take one to Glasto. Yes, Tampax does win.

I've only just spotted this

The thought of taking one of those things out and then reusing it really makes me feel a bit sick. And the sea sponge thing...seriously, they expect you to leave a public toilet cubicle and wash out your tampon sponge in the sink?!

Wrongwrongwrong.

Also, when you're expecting Aunt Flo to visit, you'd think it's embarrassing dropping your handbag and having your tampax fly everywhere in front of some sexy boy, I'd think it's far worse to drop your bag and have your Mooncup fly out, have some bloke pick it up and question you about what a mooncup is. I mean srsly. "Oh, well it's this cup I shove up my vagina, it collects all my menstrual blood over a couple of hours so I empty it out and just shove it back up there again"

I remember this thread...talk of clunge sponges and the like

They are horrid inventions and I totally agree, what woman would want to give that a rinse under the tap in a public toilet?? and it would be worse at Glasto. I feel sorry for people unlucky enough to have "aunt flo" () visit during Glasto week

btw the bit in bold has happened to me before :(

I read it all and it's just wrong. I imagine my face was looking rather scared and disturbed all the while

As Clareno7 said, it sounds like you'd get some kind of infection if you just gave it a wipe down with some loo roll or something. Blerrrrgh.

It's never happened to me before, but countless times I've had to snatch my bag away from my guy mates when they've gone in there to look for my camera or something, and they start to unzip the "emergency supplies" pocket

It is quite disturbing tbh

Oh god please don't talk about that, the thought of that makes me feel sick  bleurgh indeed :(

Haha! I can imagine the cringe factor  Isn't it a pain being female sometimes <_<

*shudders*

I don't think men could ever realise quite how lucky they are. Not only do they escape the pre-baby making monthly functions, but they escape childbirth too. And heaving a tiny person around for 9 months before aforementioned tiny person is born. And they probably spend significantly less money on underwear. Damn them.

I feel like I should jump here and defend the mooncup- they're ace! My periods are so much easier to deal with since I've been using one. Mind you, the most depressing thing I had to do post- childbirth was having to order a bigger one...

I've never had to use one at a festival though, so I'm not sure of the logistics of rinsing it out before putting it back in- I suppose you'd have to take a bottle of water into the loo with you, rather than running out to the nearest sink with your knickers around your ankles.

    • Proper special gig tonight. They won't mean much to most people, but The Dogs D'Amour were one of the most significant bands of my youth.   Tyla, yer main man of said band, was playing in Birkenhead tonight. Not many there, but it was going fine. Then he decided he didn't like the smoke and the flashing lights so suggested moving the gig to the beer garden. Off we all went, and it was magical. Like having your favourite musician play in your garden. I absolutely loved it.   Before:     After:
