Eminem?

This is perfectly reasonable - at the end of the day, it's Michael and Emily's festival and their moral judgement is absolute when signing their acts.

It is also Neil's site and his moral judgement.

However, that is NOT the same thing as objectively stating that Eminem the man IS misogynistic or homophobic based on the content of his art - in my opinion. If he replicated those views in interview or daily conduct - outside the character - then it's more troublesome.

You call it "art".

Yet Eminem does not. He has never claimed "art" as his defence for his lyrics, and he has refused to condemn the attitude of his lyrics when pressed to do so on countless occasions.

So what's your point again? :P

If you go out and beat down on a gay because it was in an Eminem song then you're a flipping moron.

However for every drug addict hundreds of people are affected in some way, wether is the families, the community, the person themselves.

I know its irrelevant, but who woul]d you rather have living next door?

Very definitely a drug addict and not a violent homophobe. I don't want guests to my house beaten to a pulp thanks very much.

If you prefer guests to your house to be beaten to a pulp then you're insane.

i argued this exact case in 07 when jay-z played, despite having always been a jay-z fan i thought he would be ruled out due to the lyrical content of some of his work and he wasn't so who knows what could happen?

But the difference with Jay-Z's lyrics is that he doesn't stand behind those lyrics and say "this is what I think". The same is not true for Eminem.

LOL you have no idea. You're arguing now for arguments sake.

When has Eminem beaten a gay dude to a pulp?

He hasn't as far as both you and I am aware!!!!

Yet he encourages people to do so all the same.

You can't say one crime is acceptable but another isn't.

Is murder as bad as not having an MOT on your car? :P

We all have dubious morals from the angle of others.

But only one of the acts you name above is singing songs with lyrics promoting violence against a group of people only because they're that group of people.

======

I've got to say, I'm stunned by some of the posts in this thread, and (at best) the lack of proper thought that appears to be driving them.

At worst, it appears that there's some right scumbags going to Glastonbury.

jay z isn't as pushed in the matter as eminem is and is better with the media and swerving the issue and at controlling how his image is portayed, basically he is very very smart and eminem isn't. :P

Eh???? :P:P

Jay-Z has been pushed on his lyrics many times, and said he's laying out scenes that he doesn't personally agree with. That he's reflecting a certain type of life, not promoting it.

The only reason I guess you're of the belief that he's not pushed on it is because he's been there and cleared that up a long while ago. The same is not true with Eminem.

Is having a few homophobic lyrics as bad as paying to download child porn/ stealing to buy heroin.

Get your priorities sorted dude.

It's not just "having a few homophobic lyrics". He could have "a few homophobic lyrics" without also encouraging violence against gays as his lyrics also do. :P

I'm not defending what Townsend did, yet the view on Townsend only becomes bad if you choose to add in things which you do not know to be true - such as the reasons for why he did what he did. The fact remains that the authorities - who had access to info not available to you or I - felt he had no case to answer.

If I can have some evidence of the man holding the same moral values as his characters then I will hold up my hands. Until that moment - it's an act.

He has on many occasions refused to distance himself from his lyrics - he has NEVER distanced himself from those lyrics.

The fact that he's refused to distance himself from those lyrics say something.

Instead, why not try and find evidence from Eminem's own mouth that he is against what he sings of. You won't, because nothing like that exists.

You are relying on your own presumption, a presumption that Eminem has refused to agree with himself.

Just like Jay-Z did, and i am sure many more before him?

Make it up why don't you? :P

Oh, you already have done.

Come back when you have a quote from Marshal Mathers saying "I don't agree with the lyrics I sing/rap".

That's something you won't be able to do. Yet it can be done for Jay-Z.

You keep saying this.

Find me the song in which he says this. You could be right, but i'm just wondering what they song is you're speaking of.

Why not ask Eminem himself of which lyrics he's agreed to drop so that he can perform in London without big protests? :P

And at the same time, why not ask him if he disagrees with those lyrics as many have done previously, and where he's refused to say that he does.
