now I've kept really quiet about this but I can hold my tongue no longer.

Why have they not played since 2003? Now I have spoken to Kliph, the drummer of the band, FACE TO FACE (yep, friends with the stars, me) about their glastonbury performance and he said it was up there with the best festival experience they've had as a band.

Now I know FOR A FACT that they'd accept an offer to play again, assuming one had been made. Now this can only mean that an offer has NOT been made since 2003.

Since then they have released their most commercially successful album, and just recently released a very critically acclaimed album.

Is there a more perfect band than them for GLastonbury? I dont think so. A perfect outlook on life, the greatest frontman in music, a wonderful beard, The Greatest Live Show In The World (but in this case, it actually is unlike utter turds like Muse), genuinely life affirming songs.

What more do you want?

It is well recognised by everyone who saw it and everyone who is not actually a drooling moron that their 2003 show was one of the most legendary performances of all time (look on youtube, a lot of it is on there). People around me were shedding tears of joy during Do You Realize.

What I am trying to say is, if they are not playing this year I will hld emily eavis personally resonsible and I will call her a tit on twitter. This I solemnly swear.

They're not a patch on Snow Patrol, Muse, Kasabian, The Kaiser Chiefs, Coldplay, The Killers, The Fratellis etc.

And you know it.

They were incredible in 2003, Before seeing them I'd never heard any of their songs but heard great things so gave them a looksey and I was just mesmorised, I now absolutely love them and I was lucky enough to see them again a few years ago when they played before The Who a few years ago and they were just as good. They are the absolute perfect Glastonbury band and in my opinion there is no band that deserves a slot more than The Flaming Lips, you can't watch them without having a huge grin on your face. :P

Eavis' get em booked

Saw them about five years ago at another festival and was really dissapointed because I really liked their albums and had heard how brilliant they were live. Seemed like a lot of style over substance to me - too few songs too much walking over the crowd in giant balloons etc

Still does seem weird that they've not made a more recent appearance.

Well my first love are the lips so given the choice I'm afraid Johnny Dangerously and the boys would take second place but I am absolutely 100% convinced kloot will be there. There is no possible reason for them not to be (apart from that unfortunate guitar-in0the-face- accident)

im glad you finally broke your silence on your love of this 'band'. without this thread i fear there may have been some confusion in the matter.

frankly, this threads about as useful as a mike99 thread.

but enough of small fry, i feel i have to clear up one massive glaring error in the above love in. although you are correct that there were tears of joy during 'do you realise', you have either omited, or more likely unaware of the actual reasons for said joy. i am happy to now clear this up. around 60,000 of us masochists have been descending on glastonbury for years. what better environment for harm than when soaked to the skin and covered in mud. in 2003 however, something magical happened. 8 to 9.30 on the saturday had already been designated 'genital mutilation' period, but joy of joys, when we looked at the timetable for that year, Coyne was due to be 'playing' at that time. So we all headed down to the pyramid field and when he took to the stage, we began inserting rusty pieces of metal into our testes. I cannot tell you the amount of joy/pain it brought us. just when i thought it could not get more painful/better i heard the opening salvo of 'realise'. and so with a rusty pen knife hanging from my left teste, and a corkscrew hanging from my right, with the strains of the awful do you realise ringing out around me, the joy/pain became too much, and i began to weep.

as with all things tho, at the end of their 'performance' came a deep feeling of shame and guilt. so we came to the conclusion that there was only one thing that could make us feel better after 'listening' to the lips. So we dragged our now bloodied and mutilated genitalia to the long drops for 20 laps of breast-stroke. Let me tell you, as soon as my face hit the turd, tampon and piss filled hole, memories of the lips began to fade, as as they faded, my self esteem returned.

in short, their an awful, awful, awful, awful, awful, awful, awful, awful group of individuals that can hardly play, write or sing.

but

because were pals, i really want them to play, i never want to see my friends unhappy. but theres a caveat to that. i want them to play EXACTLY the same timeslot as last time. sunset on the saturday. the reasons for this are twofold.

1 - you can have a magnificent time re-living what is clearly an emotional and important gig for you

2 - 174,999 of the rest of us can do something more enjoyable, more soul satisfying and ultimately much more life affirming - watch england beat the runners up of group D
