:( I doubt many other people will agree with me because he seems to be quite highly thought of around here, but I'm actually kind of disappointed with this announcement. I've listened to Darren a few times and I saw him at EotR last year and he just doesn't do it for me.

Am I missing something? What should I listen to of his that's going to convince me that this is a good Thurs night announcement after all?

I have a radical suggestion for those who don't like this announcement. Do something else.

For my part I'm not fussed either way, might go see him, might not, but it won't spoil my Thursday.

Bizarre that in the space of a few months we've gone from happy that the festival is opening on Thursday at all, to disappointment in the announcement of secret sets on the night that wasn't originally going to have live music anyway. Perspective, people.

Am I right in thinking that there will be acts playing the tipi all day? I've not been before so I don't know how this works, but I notice he says 10pm and Mersault is 2pm, so are there long gaps of is there a constant programme?

Narrow minded much? It saddens me that there are people here of the 'if you don't agree with my musical taste then you much be of a lesser intelligence'. I suppose I didn't expect to see it on an EotR forum. I can assure you that I am not an x-factor viewer, I just don't like Darren Hayman.

There's no compassion and soul to his music. I've tried to listen to him several times but his contrived lyrics make me cringe. I see what he's trying to achieve but there are other people who do it so much better. I'm sorry, I don't like his music but I know a lot of other people here do which is fine. The difference is I don't feel the need to insult them for it.

I am a bit disappointed in a funny kind of way. I was really excited about the Thursday opening, a chance to get our tent up early, rather than stay in a travelodge, a chance to chill and meet up with friends from last year....a relaxing evening was in prospect....

Now it turns out that 75% of the people I know, are going to be there between 2 and 5pm on the thursday, plus all the people coming by coach, so even if the people I know are just very enthusiastic that means that possibly 2,000 (at a conservative guestimate might turn up)??? I imagine that the news of ML & IC will increase the no of people trying to get there on thursday now..... So thats a lot of people trying to get into the Tipi. And I feel quite sorry for my friends who booked public transport, and wont arrive until the friday morning.....

Im not really bothered now about who plays on Thursday.

I would have thought there was enough time over the three days to fit in a couple of surprises amongst the other surprises (the ones that I struggle to find out about), and it does seem a bit rough on those that couldn't get Thursday off or whatever, plus that new Tipi really needs to be new and improved.

Time shall tell I guess

    • Primavera refunding day tickets which are probably a negligible percentage of attendees yesterday.
    • Thursday day tickets being refunded. Fair play.
    • I’ve had a good sleep and I feel weirdly zen about the whole thing.   My first Primavera, so not the greatest first impression. I guess today couldn’t be any worse, right?   Thoroughly enjoyed Men I Trust and Geese. Cupra is a beautiful stage and the crowd seemed fun, friendly and engaged.   I think it probably could have gone even worse, considering how dangerous the crowding felt at times.   Anyway, we go again.
    • Brighton centre is a weird old venue for the Mary Wallopers - a great band, a really good live spectacle, and its a saturday night as well which sets it all up - but its at the bloody Centre? a charmless nonsense of a conference centre? Brighton dome is a ten min walk away and is so much nicer a place to see bands its ridiculous!    ah well, i'll probably mosy along anyways . . .
    • So bad honestly. I get that bad weather happens but their communication was non existent. When you're managing crowds of tens of thousands of people, it's just not good enough. I left when Massive Attack was cancelled (the first time) and it genuinely did feel unsafe trying to get out. No one knew what was going on, people still sitting in the ground when there were hoards of people trying to leave, no crowd management at all...   I've been to PS enough times to know sometimes you need to just roll with it but this was way worse than "the bar queue was 30 minutes long".    Today will be better but still feel super disappointed.
