Valentines day

My little boy is having a Valentines Day party at nursery today. He's only 1. Corrupting them at such an early age? Bah.

I hope he does a particularly nasty nappy for them.

I know, what a terrible attitude to have towards those nursery nurses trying to give the kids a fun day and mix up their week a bit!

I hate the commercialisation of any/every event. Valentine's Day falls on the dates of an ancient pagan fertility celebration Lupercalia, which apparently involved plenty of nudity & whipping!

I love the idea of giving the perfect, well thought out gift, a token of love, of sharing a special meal or some special time together. But then, we do that whenever we can, a random midweek bbq in the sanddunes after work, an unexpected present or card, for no reason in particular.

I shudder when I read of people feeling the need to spend extortionate amounts of money (especially when it's money they can ill-afford) because it's Valentine's.

Are there really women in this world who would be so bloody demanding? Are there really men in this world who would put up with that? Or who are daft enough to think that's what women want. :P

Yes to both. Some of my friends are so insecure that they feel they need to jump through hoops to maintain their relationships, unfortunately due to the fact that in most of their cases their girlfriends are "girly girls" who have watched way too much American tv (The OC, Sex and the City, Friends etc) so these hoops involve ridiculously extravagant/expensive gifts and nights out. It's mental it really is, but as I've said before, most of my friends are in their first relationship, or prior relationships have been the same and they think this is the norm. One of them actually had the nerve to snap at me (when I asked if spending £100+ on a Valentines gift wasn't a bit much) "You've never been in love* you don't understand**" ... I'm suddenly aware I'm ranting so I'll stop there...

*That bit isn't even true

** That bit is

Aye, they seem to think the fact they can't really afford it makes it more romantic :P

The reason I whinge about this is because when it comes to my birthday 6 days later no one can afford to go out because theyve overspent :P:P

A gift/treat at Valentines day (or any day for that matter) is nice but I dont think they is any need to spend mass amounts of money on a partner in fear they will leave them

I detest Valentines Day, I really do. Made up commercialistic shite. This VD Tom is heading back to Telford in the afternoon and I'll probably have my not-quite-2-year-old god-daughter over-night, I would rather spend VD getting bullied by my god-kids/nephew than doing some soppy BS while sat in some shitty restaurant with awful service.

GRRRRRR VD
