Quite a lot of people think that. I reckon it depends on upbringing and social background. Morrissey's lyrics really speak to me personally because i'm from a lower working class environment in a horrible industrial town that's infested with smackheads. I can't relate to quite a lot of American artists because of the culture difference over there. Having said that, there are loads of exceptions. The great Bruce Springsteen is one. It all depends on if the music "grabs" you.

I'm think I'm going to agree with Sifi here.

I like both The Smiths and Muse, and am a casual Morrissey listener.

But I've never really made the connection, musically. Its just not that obvious to me.

I can possibly see a connection (maybe) with the "teenage angst" on some of the earlier Muse records, but surely that's a common theme for many younger bands?

It doesn't mean they were directly influenced by The Smiths.

To me, it's like saying The Sundays were influenced by Queen :P

Morrissey is actually a Millwall supporter. Why? He's not from East London. His family don't support them. And obviously he's not a glory hunter ( :P ). But because - and this is true - their connection with hooliganism and Moz's fascination with hooligan culture!

LOL. Just listen to Bellamy's and Morrissey's voices. Bellamy is blatantly influenced by Mozza. If anything, Bellamy's voice is more "whiny", as you would say.

he was horrible before Muse in '04. only played 40 minutes. I post this, as I see that you specifically recommend he play before Muse in the sunset slot on saturday in another thread.

perhaps you didn't realize this had been done before w/ disastrous results. Muse fans in position, slagging off Morrissey beforehand, etc...

can't see Morrissey ever at Glasto again.

I am sure Moz hates all sports , going back to the days at school when he was forced to participate

as documented in Rusholme Ruffians !

I thought he was fantastic that year myself. His own songs and his Smiths numbers were all brilliant and his voice was on top form. One of my best gigs of the weekend. I wasn't too near the front, so I wasn't near any aggro Muse fans.

That's the thing with the Pyramid stage, the crowd is so large, you can have loads of different vibes in different places.

      What is too old for Leeds Fest now ?  I'm going to the Fontaines Saturday in a few weeks at 54 !!!  I may be the oldest there 🙂    Wythenshawe may be an option for WA.

      Pretty much all festivals lose out on major artists because of production limitations though. Glastonbury is no different to most other festivals.  Lots of acts can/will adapt their tour production to suit festival stages if they want to play them, but some acts with stage designs and routines just don't want to adapt, and would rather just stick with a rigid, well-rehearsed production and take the money for their own gigs, whether that's a lot more than playing Glastonbury, or slightly less than playing some other festivals (but with added complications). Trying to adapt the stage, layout, access to b-stages etc to accommodate a single headliner on a Friday and then having to change it all around for a Saturday headliner isn't really a goer when most headliners can just easily adapt their show to stay on a main stage, if they're so inclined. They have a year to figure out how to perform a song on a main stage and ditch a few dance routines out on a b-stage if they really put their mind to it. It's not that difficult......

      I would be all over Wolf Alice but may have outgrown this venue.    Also have to consider the schedule they have been on this year so may be on a break.  This last 10 days alone they did Tramlines, New York, Chicago and Kendal Calling.  Although make hay while the sun shines may come into play.
