How many Fests do you have to attend

I would say you're either a Glastonbury virgin or a Glastonbury veteran. Therefore if you've been to one, you're a veteran. Therefore, you're a veteran of 4 Glastonburys.

Surely you'd still be a war veteran if you'd only fought in one war?

Yeah, but a tour usually lasts a whole year. So 365 days divided by 6 days equals 60 festivals.

A veteran footballer would perhaps have played more than one season before having veteran attributed to them? Veteran rockers the rolling stones perhaps would have been going for more than a year before being described as such?

For me, veterans are those who attended from at least before the big fence went up.

But then I would say that, as I've been going since 1981

Me too! It was a good question though mate. Much better than another U2 thread.

Anyway, going back to my first point - you're a veteran after 1 Glastonbury because once you've been once, you're changed for life. You have experienced something a Glastonbury virgin has not, and no matter how many times you go back, you will never experience the place or view it in such a different way as you did in your pre-conceived idea before your first.

Your first Glastonbury is a defining moment. The first time you see the glint of the tents on the horizon, the first time you step through the gates, the first time you hear *that* cheer that spreads from field to field, the first time you walk up to the top of the Stone Circle before turning around to see *that* view.....

Of course, you can experience better Glastonburys than your first, but it can never recreate the massive realisation of what you've discovered that first time you go.
