The Strokes

They could easily headline and i wouldnt be complaining. They would have headlined T few years back if it weren't for the quality bookings of Chili's and The Who and i'd say this hiatus has left even more people gagging to see them.

IMO it all depends on how strong the headliners are next year as to where The Strokes could play. They'd play 2nd to a big name eg, REM. But even at this point in there career they would attract more people as a headline band as acts such as The Darkness, Razorlight or The Pixies did when they headlined. As has been said, because they've been away for a few years interest will be high.

They are a 2nd stage headliner or 2nd top on mainstage act for a festival like R&L/TITP/V/Glastonbury. That's why they are headlining Rockness who have had Manic Street Preachers, Chemical Brothers, Flaming Lips, The Prodigy etc headlining.

This whole thing with the Strokes

Since they headlined Reading in 2002, have they played a UK festival since where they haven't headlined? Im not saying they are headline material still, but because they've been away so long and it will also be on strength of potential other headliners like metioned above but Im just wondering

V they headlined in 2004

Wireless they headlined one of the years

they're headlining Rockness and IOW

have they headlined at TITP?

Its when they get booked lower at one festival, it starts having a knock on effect on other fests IMO

Ive just had a look, they also supported Foo Fighters in Manchester the same year.

Hmm yeah, last tour they only did club venues too, I agree I can't really see them being a headliner at Reading and Leeds anymore but if the options are slim then I don't think too many people would think that they would be a weak headliner.

But isnt a band who hasnt headlined festivals or even big gigs in a long time, and tour clubs rather than arenas, pretty much the definition of a weak headliner?

I love The Strokes, but theyd be a very weak headliner.

I'd say a band who haven't played festivals in 4 years would be a very good catch, and they will probably still get a nuber one album, still sell out a tour and they have apeared on a lot of end of decade best of lists. I don't think they will headline, but they certainly could get away with it, there is a much stronger argument for them headlining than a lot of bands talked about.

My Chemical Romance, The Cure, Jay Z, Daft Punk - I'm not saying they're bigger than those bands, but you could say they are more likely to and they are definatley more popular with the current R&L audience than those bands. And whilst The Strokes are no longer as popular as they once were, they are more popular than say Franz or Razorlight were.

I would say that The Strokes could headline R&L over other fests because they have strong links to the fest. In 2001 they were promoted to the Main Stage because of the hype around them, they've only played once since when they headlined in 02 but there is a love affair between the festival and the band. I'm not fussed wetherv they play or not because I'll be seeing them at Rockness but they are a decent band and I still think they could headline.

Daft Park are regarded as one of the very best live acts in the world, they would be a huge booking. i love the strokes, but to say they were would be a stronger headliner is daft.

    • Proper special gig tonight. They won't mean much to most people, but The Dogs D'Amour were one of the most significant bands of my youth.   Tyla, yer main man of said band, was playing in Birkenhead tonight. Not many there, but it was going fine. Then he decided he didn't like the smoke and the flashing lights so suggested moving the gig to the beer garden. Off we all went, and it was magical. Like having your favourite musician play in your garden. I absolutely loved it.   Before:     After:
