Crap stuff? Along with The Beatles and The Who, just about the most influential British band to come out of the 60's/70's.

Never really been my cup of tea, but they would be a HUGE coup for Glastonbury. A vast back catalogue of classic tracks. I can see this one being a winner if it turns out to be true.

I don't dispute any of your comments here but given the length of career and immense back catalogue, you have to admit that the amount of really good stuff they've done represents a very small percentage of their overall material. And they haven't done anything good for donkeys years.

I saw them at the isle of wight festival a couple of years ago (I had to go as it was my friends stag do!) and they were bloody awful. The set list was really dreadful and the band were just going through the motions. It is the most disappointed I have ever been at a gig. Keith Richards took lead vcals on a couple of songs and it was laughable. I have heard a version of paint it black on youtube from their last tour and brian jones must be spinning in his grave. Woeful stuff.

Going to see a stones tribute band would be better than the real thing these days. It breaks my heart to say that.

There is NO WAY they will play a set that is based on just songs from the 60s and 70s. No chance.

Glastonbury has a way of working its magic on people....the smells,the atmosphere and the joi de vivre could be just enough to transport them back to the heady days before the wrinkles took hold.

Any band can have a bad / off day - See Isle of Wight.

Any band, especially when they have been around as long as the Stones can release a duff album or two.

I've seen the Stone 6 times, once on each of the last six tours and they are fabulous, if they are going to play and the rumours are not going away at the moment, they will not let anybody down, quite the opposite. They have such a huge selection of classic tunes it would be hard not to play a hit full set. The field would have the best party its had for years, and I've been in that field and partied many many times over the years....

Please don't make me come back and get angry about this.

Taking it to the total extreme and i know this isnt going to happen but just to explain what i mean if on friday night you had

Other - Coldplay

Jazz - Stevie Wonder

Park - Elbow

Acoutstic - Noel Gallager

Surely all of these acts are big enough to split the attendance so they would all get a crowd that fits the stage? I know you wont get these 5 acts on at the same time I am only using this as an example but if its right that ME wants bigger acts on smaller stages then you would see something along these lines

Yes as a general point this sounds right. The idea of bigger bands on smaller stages initially seemed a crowd control nightmare but its not impossible if the competition on other stages is good enough. As has been said, the only problem is getting the big names to play the smaller stages. Reckon Noel might fancy the Acoustic though.
