Or, easily solved by e-mailing Somerset county council, quote the comment (mentioned on here) that there will be more people watching this than in the stadium, The real issues and problems reported from 2004 andthe agression generated on the thread and see if they think it should be shown.

Like many, i am a big football fan and given half a chance, will watch pretty much any game.

However; i cannot comprehend the thought of World Cup 2010 taking over Glastonbury to the extent that live music may suffer? If we are only talking about 1 or 2 England games then maybe this would be OK. My vote would be for a number of small mobile screens to be placed around the site and away from the main areas so that smaller groups could watch the game (if they choose to). This may also help with avoiding over crowding and over excitement which in turn can result in nasty stuff.

What a ridiculous statement, do you think that if there is not enough capacity at a stadium that other events have a responsibility to take up the slack? the central point is that this is not a football festival. simple as.

I train boxers and it is very likely that at least one of my lads (or lasses, sorry Jay) will be boxing that weekend but I choose to give up on that to do some thimg else, you cant have every thing that you want all of the time sometimes choices have to be made.

Why have you decided to only mention the minority of reports of the 2004 aftermath - i.e. the negative ones?

Why don't you read through the thread again, and realise that generally, it was an excellent FRIENDLY atmosphere? Very much inkeeping with the Glasto atmosphere.

Through the magic of TV many more people than can be accomodated at the stadium are enabled to watch the match. The TV companies in turn pay money to support the football industry.

It is a festival that aims to entertain its punters, and as they are likely to be entertained by this match with its broad range of appeal to a huge number of the audience, it seems perfectly appropriate to me.

You clearly don't want to watch it, don't.

If there's a match before the Friday it will be shown on the Pyramid (presuming they get the screens working) and it will get a huge crowd, which will be good natured

If there's a match from the Friday onwards it will be shown somewhere (traditionally would have been the cinema field, alas no more - the William's 'Field' area used for the Lions' game this time would be no near big enough

There's room for football at Glastonbury. And there's more than enough room at Glastonbury if you don't like football.

Football creates passions, that is its glory and its problem, when you are part of a football crowd everybody scfreaming and chanting together is uplifting and makes you feel part of something. If you are not part of that crowd the same inocnet actions are intimidating and you must admit that there is some reason for that, football has a bad reputation for violence which may be exagerated but is not completely unwarrented. If you then get one or two twats from a crowd of thousands going way too far it seems as if the whole crowd may be erupting.
