its not really legal, but more legal than the other drugs around. Apparently has a clean high like a mild E and is pretty safe to mix with alchohol. Do not recommend doing more than 1/2 gram at a time.

if you get caught with it and it gets tested it shows up as an amphetamine which is class B i think.

hope you read this before it gets taken down

There was a time when grandadcollective used to find it easy and enjoyable to just get high and dance all night. When did things become so complicated? Elation seems a long way away these days and the road to it is fraught with danger, potholes, dips and side roads that lead nowhere as apposed to the good old days when they often led somewhere more interesting and the only thing you didn't want to mix with was alcohol.

From what I understand it's one of a variety of synthetic designer drugs that are similar to amphetamine and only legal because the law has not caught up yet. It's sold for research purposes, not for human consumption (right.....).

Don't blame the manufacturer when things go wrong, as it is untested.

Most of you like ethanol (alcohol). Did you know that there is a similar untaxed cheap molecule called methanol that'll get you drunk? Downside is that it causes blindness.

Before the fest there was a thread about legal highs I contributed to talking about a synthetic opiate made in the 70s. Bad news was that it gave the users Parkinsons syndrome, good news was that medical understanding of Park's was massively advanced.

I don't know whether you're better off taking "MDMA" cut with god knows what, or pure Mephedrome, but just cause it's legal don't make it safe.

That was me talking about the Parkinson's! I think.

The untested thing is a bit of a worry. It's all very well for Albert Hoffman to take a load of his homemade LSD and go off for a bike ride, but just taking stuff shipped over from a lab in China on the off chance it will be fun is a bit different.

It's mainly a money making exercise, people trying to get round the bloody stupid drug laws.

It certainly isn't a festival drug. To quote Super Hands, its really moreish-you'd spend a every half hour searching for a toilet to top up in. On the plus side, the taste is so foul that it'd probably block out the stench of shit from your nose.

The stuffs impact on your mental state for the next day or two afterwards is horrible, easily transcending the decent high. You will slump into a despairing spiral of nihilism and despair, and not even the kind that can be softly eased by going to watch some melancholic music, the gut wrenching kind that'll leave you lost to the world as you quietly state into the synthetic walls of your tent wondering what's the ****ing point.

I wouldn't touch it at a festival, even when putting aside the more sensible medical reasons offered by people on this thread.

  • 4 months later...

Bumping this thread because of the front page of the Metro today... another death linked to mephedrone and calls on the Government to ban it.

So would people still take it with a) more evidence linking to harm, and :P if the Government do ban it?

(BTW, I personally wouldn't, but my view is that it is all about choices, so I'm not trying to preach etc.)

Some people take drugs... some people die...

Thats how it works, ive taken alot of mephedrone and been ok on it.

However its very moreish and puts you in a bit of a zombie like state if your snorting it all the time, but thats abuse so expected.

Expect the low online prices to fall even thurther before the ban, before being heavily cut and sold more on the street where it becomes more dangerous and.... MORE DEATHS!

Making a substance illegal does no good.

While I agree with the fact you could end up getting more dangerous stuff on the street, making it illegal does reduce usage. Just take mushrooms as an example, before the ban anyone could buy them from a local bong shop and loads of people, including myself, were taking mushrooms all the time. Now, apart from at festivals, in my experience its virtually impossible to find shrooms .... which SUCKS! But you can understand why the government did it.

There's was a pretty even handed report about legal highs in the Guardian a few weeks back which includes methadrone.

http://www.guardian.co.uk/society/2009/oct...atom-head-shops

The Metro's reporting this morning was pretty disgraceful, Girl 14, Killed by Legal Net Drug was the headline but the article reports that she had been drinking and had also taken ketamine and that the autopsy had shown no conclusive results.

if you're willing to risk your health for a cheap but intense thrill with mephedrone than that is completely up to you. imo.

i'm willing to risk mine cos for a lot of people its the dangerous times that make the safe times worth while

just a shame that miserable people who have no idea they're talking about have to runi everything for everyone.

did you know before they were criminalised most scientists recommended that mentally sound people above the age of 18 should try LSD and MDMA at least once, for the benefit of their emotional development. i honestly couldn't agree more. yes, there would be problems, but the world would be a so much better place.

legalise, regulate and tax the lot. watch a beautiful new world appear in front of your eyes immediately.

    • A mixed first day for us. First of all, we were honestly quite shocked that there was no security check at all at the VIP entrance around 7:30 PM. No bag check, nothing. I’ve attended Primavera many times over the years and this felt surprisingly lax for an event of this size. Did anyone else experience the same?   Another disappointment was the communication regarding the weather situation. Primavera has some of the best sound systems and speaker setups in the festival world, yet somehow they were not able to make a single clear announcement explaining what was happening. Instead, people were expected to read tiny messages on screens in Mordor while thousands were left wondering what was going on. A simple and direct audio announcement would have gone a long way.   On a lighter note, this guy absolutely made my day. Sitting right in front of the Estrella Damm terrace, wearing nothing but a long-sleeve shirt, jeans and a pair of Converse All Stars, he remained completely unbothered by the rain. While everyone else was looking for shelter, he sat there wearing sunglasses, calmly watching the crowd as if he was watching a movie.   Absolute main character energy!
    • I think my party got pretty lucky last night, at least compared to some of the horror stories over on Reddit. I was very impressed with Father John Misty in particular.   Perhaps my view would be different if I were a big Massive Attack fan or whatever, but right now my feeling is that if it's not safe for the shows to go ahead... then it's not safe for the shows to go ahead. I'd much rather they were cautious than roll the dice when it comes to something like that.    Here's hoping everyone has a better day today.
    • It was awful during Father John Misty and I was close to the front. People just shouting and laughing their f-ing heads off about nothing in particular and being louder than the bloody stage.
    • Other things I noted yesterday, away from the obvious…   Positives: - an extra water point towards the back left of the main stages has appeared, which I believe is new for this year (and was much needed) - handing out free ponchos was a good touch  - caroline were fantastic. I’d never been in the Auditori Rockdelux before, it’s a wonderful venue and a great venue if you fancy a more chilled out environment  Negatives: - the talkers. I know it’s always bad here (and most festivals nowadays) but f**k me people wouldn’t shut up yesterday. I wonder if it was partly as a result of people being at artists they had little interest in (due to rain limiting their options), although it wasn’t great during blood orange. We’ll be making an effort to get a spot nearer the front for anyone we particularly care about over the weekend  - not enough staff around (and the ones that are there are largely useless). Most other festivals have them everywhere and are happy to help
