I'm another one who's been going since the early 90s and I do find some of the negative comments regarding present day baffling. I think it's easy to look back with rose tinted glasses. Yes there are more beer boys now, but the scallies are mostly gone.

I've had friends who had knives pulled on them in the 90s, I've been sat in the stone circle talking to someone and a group of scallies (probably no older than 15-16) ran up to them and just robbed them in broad daylight, we tried chasing after them but its easy to disappear into a crowd which is exactly what they did. People got shot ffs.

There were some very sketchy people around in those days, far more dangerous than a few (admittedly anti-social) beer boys nowadays. Remember the dealers who used to line either side of the bridges 24/7? It was very intimidating.

I had some of my best times in the 90s, I'll admit that, but then again I was in my late teens/20s then, and now I'm...erm...older ;) - And as I get older I don't want to be out all night off my tits, BUT, the younger crowd do, and that's fine.

I think it's a testament to the festival that you now see so many young kids there, parents obviously feel it's a safe environment, and that has to be a good thing. Yes it's lost a bit of it's edge yadayada, but so what? The festival wouldn't even exist today if it hadn't changed. I had a bloody great time this year, and intend to do so next year as well. It is as simple as if you don't like the changes that much then maybe it is time to hang up the walking boots and find somewhere else to go IMO.

hehehe, as someone who started going in the early 90s I can remember the old guard getting upset that people were there to enjoy dance music. There was lots of talk of 'the end of glastonbury if they let these antisocial kids in who just want to drop E and dance all night' :D

Things move on, it's all good. The kids are alright, and from what I saw of this weekend, Glastonbury is safe in their hands, long may it mutate into something that I can't possibly imagine in the future, that's the beauty of it

yeah, well said kohoutec & Filthy.

It seems the people complaining about too many rowdy lager louts are the same people who were complaining about the festival having become too middle class a few years ago.

Lots of people are saying that the knuckle dragger element was higher this year. I thought there were more posh people there this year! I even heard some girl say "Oh Rupert we simply must go and watch Florence and the Machine as long as we get to the Bruce Springsteen concert".

To me there seemed to be more young people than ever which is what Eavis wanted. To do that with the "ageing" headliners shows what a pull Glasto is to people - no doubt they will all probably come back for years. Glasto will never turn into Leeds and Reading - does anyone really think that? The green fields, circus and caberet areas, trash city, kidz fields, cinema won't suddenly turn into bacardi bars just because there's less evidence of drugs and free love! As a city kid its coming to places like that that make the festival. All V has is a Hari Krishna tent and they're only there to provide free water!

For me it's actual the place that makes Glasto different to and better than the others. The flags, the hills, the surrounding villages you drive through, the tipis, the sight of the fence, the fact that it's not just a campsite with an arena next door, the cider bus, chinese lanterns, trees, hedges, pretty lights in the Park, handpainted bins, organic food stalls, smoothie bars, longdrops, i could go on and I've not even touched on the variety of entertainment available! The other fests are just stages with burgwer vans and bars. When the music's over it's back to the tents. BORING!!

As long as there is a Glastonbury festival 90% of the elements I love about it are sure to be present and I intend to go as long as I can. Whether there's more rubbish, dirtier loos or more drunk lads than ever doesn't bother me as it's the one place in the world that you should be able to escape all negative thoughts unless something affects you directly. If you don't like Glastonbury then you shouldn't go to ANY festivals.

What I dont understand about the drugs debate is just because someone in the goverment says that one thing is legal and one thing is illegal then one is OK & one is bad.

I have made my own judgement on the drugs out there legal or not, I know which ones I like & which ones I dont. Which ones that agree with me & which ones dont.

People that go on about how dirty & filthy drugs are & how, if you need to take drugs to have a good time are sad, then get up in the morning have a coffee & drink cider or beer all day. Hypocrits.

Whats the difference, apart from a few out of date laws saying one is ok and the other is not. I say each to their own.

Drugs haven't ruined my life.

I know people who take drugs every day and it hasn't ruined their lives.

You're completely missing the historical context and link between glastonbury and drugs. Alcohol is a drug that is a lot more harmful than many illegal drugs, should that be banned from glastonbury?

So you need to be told the difference between what is morally right & wrong by some asshole in westminster.

I tend to find that my gut feeling tells me that rape & murder are not the best course of action in any one given day. Thats just me tho I guess.

What is the difference to wobbling about a festival having injested a few pints of your favourite tipple or wobbling around having eaten a bit of powder & smoked a totally natural plant. As long as niether of them are being offensive to anybody else I can't see the difference.

Just slightly off topic, I was approached by 2 young ladies on the Wednesday night who asked if I had any Ketamine. I replied no, and said that I was undercover security so be careful not to ask anyone again. They seemed truly chastised as they ran away

Well tough cookie, drugs are as illegal in glasto as they are outside it. In fact i think it would be even better if you get banned for life from glastonbury if you are found with drugs. There is no place for them at glasto or in society, they wreck lives.

The difference is, the security have a legal right to remove your drug of choice from your hand. But they have no right to take mine (unless I have way overdone it).

I think the initial point was, you wouldn't moan if a bouncer took it from you going into a club - so why moan about it at Glastonbury.

I spend my life abiding by the law - and have a fecking great time. And from what I have read on here, half the drug takers spend their time outside the law, and spend the other half moaning about it!!!
