HIGHS

Sitting in a wicker dome in the Healing Field on Thursday afternoon, in the sunshine, with Rabid. Supping a box of rose, which was still cool, just me & him, not another soul around. Well, so it seemed. One of life's perfect moments.

Tom Jones, in a FABULOUS frock I'd found in a "2 for a Fiver" box on my way up to Greenpeace to marry Rabid (he wore the other one, naturally) & a feather boa. Knicker flinging, a pint of Burrowhill & special fudge helped things along nicely.

Dan le Sac & Scroobius Pip secret gig in the Igloo, totally random & one of the acts I really wanted to see.

Mim Souleiman's gig in The Glade. We wandered through there on our way somewhere (we never have worked out where!) & there was this immense voice coming out of this tiny woman, singing gorgeous traditional songs, accompanied by a guy doing the most amazing beatbox . A true Glasto find, random, unexpected, totally sidetracked us. Briliant.

The thunderstorm. Less said about that the better!

Walking up to the very top of Flagtopia before we turned round, not long after arriving on Wednesday. The view & the sound. Ice cold Pimms too. Perfect. Then, in The Park as we were lounging on some wooden benches, Sir Eavis pulled up in his landrover & started wandering around. Cool!!

Spending Glastonbury with someone I love. I've been several times before & had loads of different experiences there - I've been in the 80s, I've worked there & I've been on my own & with mates. But going there with my soulmate was just perfect.

LOWS

Losing Rabid's phone between the campsite we were at the night before & getting to Glasto & thinking it was my fault. But when we got back to the car when we left, he found it in the tent we'd used that night, so that ended up a high.

The wait geting in. But we had a cracking mixtape on in the car so that wasn't too bad either.

Leaving. But all those memories.............So, another high!

I know It's not 5 Highs/5 Lows, but there are 10 in total so that's OK I hope!!

Highs -

1. F**ked Up - an awesome show that got our weekends off to a great start

2. Shangri La - Our first time at Glasto and if you've spent the last 5 years at T in the Park then this will blow you away! It was like being on a different planet for us, never seen anything like it. All that was missing was Harrison Ford hunting Daryll Hannah.

3. Sunday - Art Brut followed by Brand New followed by Yeah Yeah Yeahs followed by Bat For Lashes followed by Bon Iver followed by Nick Cave and topped off by Blur, some of my favourite bands and all played stunning sets... especially Yeah Yeah Yeahs although disappointingly no Y Control.

4. The Banter / general good vibes - met some new friends in the campsite and experienced no arseholes. 100% scum free! (I realise not everyone felt the same)

5. The Weather - the rain couldn't have come at a better time.

Lows -

1. "Special Guests" - All Shite!

2. Living in Scotland - 9hrs there, 9hrs back!

3. People pitching their tents on the pathways, couldn't find our way back to the god damn tent.

4. Leaving Neil Young to go watch Animal Collective - I thought they were pretty disappointing, and I missed Heart of Gold  bad times.

5. My back was killing me! Really need to sit down between sets

All in all it was an awesome weekend!

Neil Young - awesome, I've been really getting into Neil Young for the past few years so when I saw he was headlining I was really looking forward to it. I had heard though he can be very awkward live, he does what he wants to do and there was talk of him playing most of his new album (which i quite like but not compared to his classics). When the first few cords of my my hey hey kicked in the hairs on the back of neck stood up, his whole set was perfect and my favorite song, Down by the river was amazing.

Gas light anthem - Great album and I know they are a good band. The JP tent was fairly busy for it but I was quite close to the stage. After the 4th song on the screen came a view of the back of the stage for about a second, there was a man stood there with sunglasses on and a guitar, I thought I recognised him, then it clicked who it was. I said to my mate Bruce is on stage, he thought I had taking something and was tripping. The lead singer said 'everyone be quite, do you hear that?' Then out walks on the JP the boss, BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN. The place erupted, everyone who was sat down outside came running it, it was amazing. He played the one song with them but then for the rest of the set just stood at the side watching

The weather - made everyones festival

The specials - haven't lost it, great live band

Thursday night - dancing outside next to a clothes stall that had a dj on whilst it was thundering and lightening, only at glastonbury

Low

Getting there - 17 hours from Nottingham to site

sunday night/monday morning rain - got drenched to the bone walking to trash city

Going so quick - it really flew by this year, I think its because I booked the ticket so early I had 7 or 8 months anticipation rather than the normal few months

Thats all I have, just 3

What a great year, bring on 2010

:D

Lamb - A phenomenal and emotional performance.. Obviously happy to be back playing together at festivals...

Rolf - I was lucky enough to be near the front (ish). What a legend. The crowd were also awesome.

Campsite - The lovely people that camped next to us, and also those in the vicinity. Great amenable peeps, some of whome weren't averse to being photographed at 5am.

Shangri-La/Arcadia - Especially at night. Really captured the evolving spirit of Glastonbury.

The Tiny Tea Tent - My little home away from home, as per usual..

Lows

Congestion - On the way to the site (multiple accidents and no traffic police)... and on-site... just a tad too squished on the main walkways.

Shangri-La/Trash City/Arcadia - Late opening made me sad.

Sound/Power problems - Seriously, guys! Witnessed problems on Thursday for The Whip, Speed Caravan, Lamb, and a bunch of others.

Naughty People - Hedge P!ssers, Litter Droppers, Antisocial Buggers..

Unruly Kids - Parents! They are your responsibility! Kids seen breaking stuff, destroying artwork, causing near-serious accidents, etc.. all with the parents sitting nearby. Tsk.

Final Score

I'd run out of Lows long before I ran out of Highs.

Highs

1. For the first time in years, headliners! - Neil Young and Blur, especially the crowd in Blur's set.

2. Trash City and particularly the Drag Strip bar on Saturday night. Finding myself sort of swept in there as it opened and watching Bishi and then the cabaret acts. An absolute dream.

3. Major Major at the Queen's Head - they were the band that won the Rockstar competition this year which I listen for, and I was worried that at 12 noon on Sunday on a new stage they might struggle to get a crowd for their prize slot. But the tent filled up as they played and they got a great reception.

4. Tunng and Tinariwen on the Park Stage. Had been kicking myself for missing their collaborative tour as I really admire both acts, so it was fantastic to get to see them reprise it there.

5. Shlomo and his Vocal Orchestra plus guests. Possibly grinned more than in any other set of the weekend. Bellatrix and Marcus Brigstocke's face-off was priceless.

Lows

1. The smell of the ground outside Brothers Bar when it got quiet - ugh!

2. The girl talking at the top of her voice throughout Blur right behind me, apparently oblivious to dirty looks, not to mention one of the great headline slots of modern times!! I kept thinking "these Pyramid speakers are quite loud, how the hell are you talking over them. And more to the point why?!". I finally found somewhere to move to during Tender and am so glad I did.

3. The guy who asked me to hold his cider for him - it turned out to be so that he could leave a great big bit of plastic on the ground more easily. Dick.

4. Sadness at seeing how the JazzWorld crowds have dwindled for anyone who isn't a household name. I think they're going to have to find a way to revitalise that field.

5. Picking an overcomplicated, unsuitable-for-a-festival piece to read at my own slot at the Fluffy Rock - I was the worst thing I saw all weekend : p

Not enough spaces in a top 5 for all the highs, and struggling to think of 5 lows. Brilliant.

+when strangers are friendly/helpful/etc

+Blur singalongs

+all the tasty food

+Emmy the Incredible

+Neil Young

Lows:

-people are absolutely disgusting...if you are so lazy that you cannot wait in a 3 minute queue to use a festival urinal and instead are just pissing out in the open right next to it, you should have your face shoved in the piss mud you created and be forced to eat every bite of it. and don't get me started on all the litter or the fact that someone pissed on my tent

-the rain and therefore the mud

-the 9 hour national express ride from London

-all the best camping sites being overstuffed by Wednesday night

-missing Jarvis Cocker, Priscilla Ahn, one of the Emmy the Great sets, Animal Collective, etc due to clashes
