Not a good year

I have been going to glastonbury since '95, but this year was a bad year for me and my mates. As has been mentioned before, flags in front of stages, pointless fires full of plastic and chairs, tent thefts, general lack of manners, destruction of toilet doors etc and pissing in bushes really ruined glasto this year for us.

what happened to the drummers at the stone circle?

Then you have the old glasto idea of 'green futures' etc with arcadia blasting out flames (very green spirited) in the next field.

the security around trash city, arcadia and shangri la was so heavy handed and the 'one way system' is a mockery of the freedom that glasto used to offer.

Glasto used to be a place we could go to get away from the trials of life for a few days, but because of the amount of rude, violent and selfish people i saw this weekend i felt like i was at reading.

next year may be my last if it doesnt fix up

Within about 2 hours of arriving on site all the stresses of modern life had left me, and I was in a top mellow mood until I got back home.

It wasn't perfect, there did seem to be a lot of pushing and shoving, and all the stuff you mention, but not enough to counteract the positives.

If you do feel like that though, why not try one of the smaller festivals next year?

i really loved the festival but i do kind of agree with everything this guy says

we were camped in the dragon field, and constantly had to walk through the idiots at shangri la because of the one way system(not saying everyone there was, just a lot).

in my opinion, glastonbury is starting to lose its spirit, and is starting to become full of people who belong at reading/leeds.

Conned twice by different dealers £100 (would normally bring our own but decided to come late)

Food is super expensive

Headliners and line up is very average

Too many people

Serious question. What small festivals would you recommend? Glasto was too big and crowded for me personally. I'd like something with a wide selection of music on no more than a few stages that are within half a mile of each other, good food and drink selection (loved the cider at Glasto!), and camping with gaps between the tents.

Ok there are alot of young people there, but the people that belong at Reading and Leeds will want to cause a fight and make trouble and I didn't see any trouble all weekend. I just think that you reckon your in some sort of Elitist group just because you have been to the old school Glastonburys so you think you have the right so be all snobby about it and complain. To be perfectly honest with you, there is nothing else like Glastonbury in the world and if you stay away from the other stage and the dance village where it's a little bit edgy and go to the Circus Feilds and Green Areas then you will see that the old school Glasto vibe and alternative atmosphere is still very much present. Stop acting like a prat and grow some balls.

I wish people would stop coming here saying who should and who shouldn't be at Glastonbury. It's a festival of the people, from the normal to the strange and everyone in-between.

If people do something stupid, it's most likely to be because they were pissed and having a good time. When you mix with many thousands of other people, shit happens. Get over it and stop looking at the negatives in life, which exactly what Glastonbury isn't about.

Edit: And another thing (!) - Stop comparing now to the past. People that have been going to the festival since the start will laugh at short-time span comparisons - you don't see people here comparing the 90's to the 80s etc.

it's an ever evolving festival - like it or not it will never be the same as it used to be, the same as much though I love old skool rave and used to be a cainer - it will never be like that again.

I think the heat may have had a little something to do with it...

Take the first couple of sweltering days;

Hot sweaty men in the sun drinking cider all day, gettin' themselves all dehydrated and gettin' silly!

Or maybe i'm just getting old, I mean you didnt get this with 4 inches of rain!

But I did agree, it did feel a little more 'rude' this year, and I shamefully admit even I was rude a couple of times and have felt terrible ever since...

But still I wouldn't have said these little things ruined my year, Glastonbury is still an amazing experience in my books...
