Dubstep

Guest freehugs!

Recommended Posts

since last glastonbury i have acquired a taste for a bit of dub ( but am still quite a newbie ). i have noticed a few dubstep/ish artists already mentioned on the rumours list and am looking to get my fingers dirty.

so, my first question is: where is the best place to find a bit of dubstep at glastonbury?

2. could you reccommend any that you believe to be playing this year?

many thanks ( and apologies if a similar thread already exists)

you do know that dubstep doesn't = dub and vice versa?

dub came about in the 60s/70s and is very different to dubstep which has only recently come about since 2step and garage.

not trying to be a clever-dick. just thought i'd point it out since it really grinds my gears when people mix them up...

My mate (who is attending the G for the first time this year) is a big Dub head. I've promised to go to the Glade with him. I'm a reggae man so I stomach it well. Heard some Mad Proffessor the other week-Sweet! :O No idea if he'll play though :)

you are forgiven :D

btw i wasn't having a go. i have nothing against dubstep - i love what i have heard so far (which isn't much). been listening to some of the recommendations on here as well.

was just pointing out that dub is dub - i have met a lot of people recently who are ignorant to it (since dubstep got big), and i try to big it up quite a lot cos i think that lee perry, king tubby, augustus pablo et al were genuinely revolutionary. (not that dubstep isn't)

i don't know hey o hansen, but the other two are dub bands aren't they? - ie they actually play instruments

where as original dub (which is generally 'trippy slow dub') was the invention of remixing and the sound manipulating of reggae bands on studio mixing desks.

back on topic - does anybody know which stages are most likely to have some dubstep (or dub)? I've only been to glastonbury once before and i certainly don't remember what stages were for what...

    • I wonder if he's going to get into the States for the second match against England. Seems a bit weird having players missing for certain matches but not others as the world cup moves around.
    • Quite lucky as I’ve no interest in Halsey at all so I’ve got time for some food and drink before getting in there.   But yeah… thinking I’ll have to leave early to get a decent spot for Gorillaz
