Out of Downloads headliners this year, and with someone in another thread talking about Faith No More being like a "Huge Influence" on Slipknot, just thought I'd pose the question, which headliner would you have preferred to have playing?

I know most on here would disagree, but I'd rather Slipknot. They're genuinely one of my favourite 'heavy' bands, I love the enormous sound they have, with the guitars and bass having a particularly percussive feel. Of course Faith No More are far worthier a choice, I'm more of a fan of the Knot, and I'd bet the majority of R/L goers are too.

Rather than just making immature stupid statements, can you all at least back them up with a SLIGHT bit of reason and proof as to why:

"Slipknot are a joke"

"Slipknot and Def Leppard are embarrassments to themselves"

I'm not saying I'm fans of any of them, but its easy to just say something like that about anyone, lets have some EVIDENCE.

Well Slipknot are a joke band. Surely noone can take people who wear outfits like that seriously? Whether they're any good or not (I personally don't think they are) is an entirely different matter. Slipknot, like Spinal Tap and Tenacious D, are not a serious band to be taken seriously.

If you are only concerned with something as shallow as image you're never going to be see any deeper.

Why are we comparing Slipknot to Tenacious D and Spinal Tap? Those two bands are novelty acts, spoofs and parodies.

Fair enough if you don't like the style of music or what is said in the lyrics, but to disregard only on image is quite a stunted view.

I'd like to have seen them live - this is only because I'd like to see their show though; I see them as being entertainers more than musicians - hence why I don't listen to them. Musically they may have some talent and skill in technique, but the songs they produce don't put their skill to good use.

Faith No More on the other hand can produce good songs and from what I can imagine and have seen in videos are/were good showmen too, therefore they win hands down.

Oh and Def Leppard theres plenty of other bands just like them, and I'm not really interested in that kind at all.

i'm not making anything void - my opinion has remained. the reason i would rather see faith no more is because i prefer them, and to me slipknot and def leppard are awful. by not stating why i think this, i am simply not stating it. it's fairly simple though - i think the music is terrible. that's all. it doesn't really further the debate much since at the end of the day, it's still my opinion and still holds exactly as much substance as it did before. i'm not up for debating whether they are crap or not - to me, they just are. it's all that matters.

i'm not really up for debating anything about them though. like i said, my opinion is set. i don't like them because i don't like the music. this is a basic preference. i don't really feel the need to expand on that because at base level you only need to know this - the music is not to my taste, when i listen to it i do not enjoy it, and overall i personally feel it is bad.

why debate it? it's only my opinion and i'm causing nobody any damage. i know nobody can change my mind and i'm not setting out to change anyone else's. it's just a case of personal preference.

it's a poll. i chose, and let people know who i chose. i did it to express my appreciation of faith no more, if anything. does it really have to be deeper than that? it's just conversation. let it be.

    • Very different in terms of time of game,  yet remember how excited I was before the first game in Euro 2016 having grown up not sure I would ever see wales in an international tournament. That day scraped a win against Slovakia and was just happy to see wales score and win at a tournament, little did I know we would finish in the top 4. Hope Scottish fans get the same experience.
